It probably may be something off with the oil pressure. My 02 TL was doing this about a week ago, but that was because I started driving it before it even had time to warm up enough. The oil pressure light came on and whenever the car was in park, it would rev constantly. Did any of the lights light up? Im not sure about getting the car into gear though.

Sorry to thread hump but I'm new here and desperately need answers quick!! I'll get to the introductions later, once I am officially a member with posting privileges, you can hump all my threads!!

My car, 98 Acura CL 3.0 (Vtec) auto trans.. All stock.

My problem. Swapped in a fresh automatic trans out of a T boned 99 Honda Accord. A few issues with compatibility, all resolved except for the linkage. The stock CL shifter cable seems to be too short where the linkage connects to the trans. The Acuras trans/linkage mount/cover bolts right up to the accord trans, the problem is, there is not enough shifter cable from where the cable mounts to the trans cover to where the linkage connects to the accord trans. In other words, I cant get the car into park or reverse. With the adjustable linkage at the shifter turned all the way out, it still does not give me the luxury of engaging reverse or parking the car. Another thing I want to point out, the shifter will not go as far as low 1 either.

So, is it the cable, or the cover that I need to replace? BTW, the CL cable snapped as well, didn't take much, cable was badly frayed within the sleeve, could that be why the travel is so limited? Or is the Accord cable the one I need to swap in? I know the accord cable may very well be different than the CL, may be the solution, or part of it.. I can't help wondering if the cover could also be an issue? How do I figure this out?

Please help a noob fellas, I need the car to get me to work!! Thanks in advance!!

Check the throttle cable. Could be the wire broke and the frayed ends
of the cable caused it to stick open. When you step on the gas nothing
happens because the other end is no longer connect to the throttle.

Shifter cable linkage cover for the 98 CL is an exact fit on the 99 Accord Trans, the 98CL Cable seems too short from the part where it bolts to the cover to where the linkage connects to the trans. There is not enough cable throw. When I looked inside the cable from where it snapped off, (shifter side) it seems as though the solid core of the cable is twisted like a corkscrew, could this be the reason the cable throw is limited?

How can I figure out which cable to use?

OK, How about this.. The 98 Acura CL trans, is it mechanically different from the 99 Accord trans? Meaning, the spindle that the shifter cable connects to on the trans itself, could that be offset? Could there be a 2 or 3" difference in the location of that pin or rod or spindle, (not sure what it is called, it is the part that the shifter cable connects to, the part on the transmission the selects park, reverse, nuetral, drive etc. If that is different on the 99 Accord transmission, then I will need a 99 Accord shifter cable, if it is in the same location, then I will need nothing more than a replacement CL cable for a 98..

I know that the 99 Accord Trans needed to have some new threads installed, some of the bolts needed to secure it to the CL did not line up. Trans mount was different, just a matter of threading a few of the holes already on the casing to allow for bolts.. Other than that, the cable is a problem, but I am thinking the cable being defective is what is causing the lack of available length to engage all gears from Park on up.

Can someone please help? This is a forum where people are supposed to help people no?

One other thing. Is the Accord transmission possibly geared different than the CL trans was? Also, that electronic shifter cable position sensor off to the side, how do I properly adjust that?

I picked up this freshly rebuilt Accord Trans for $400, I paid someone $400 to swap it in and also replace a badly bent rear subframe (the one with the steering rack installed on it)

how about taking the shifter cable from the '99 accord?

transmissions should be geared nearly identically

the transmissions are internally the same but the case casting are different that is why you can't get it properly bolted in.

Thanks, that's a start.

OK, here is the problem. When I got the car back, I could not engage park reverse neutral or low 1, but could be moved from L2 to D4. What that tells me is that there was limited shifter cable length. The shifter cable of the Acura connects to the Accord trans as does the trans cover of the Acura. But the cable did not have enough throw. Then the cable snapped, thats when I noticed that the cable had been badly twisted inside the sleeve causing the break, this seems like it could be the reason the movement was so limited but I can't be sure.

I can't figure out if I need a 99 Accord cable or a 98 Acura CL cable, or if they are both the same and my cable was defective causing the limitation.

I don't have access to any cables to compare them to. I would have to go to the dealer, pay for the part then wait to see if it's the right one.. Can someone help?
