when installing one(to the guys who already have 1 installed) do you usually weld the 2 main pieces and use smaller pieces to connect the cage inside of the car? or it it all welded and then just shoved through the doors some how?
Proper cages require a full tear out and are constructed in the car.

has some nice kits I've helped friends with them.
I've made my own as well.
Cages are not something to mess with if you do not understand them. They are a lot of money and time to do right.

i looked at the site and their pricing for an 8 point cage aint so bad

If you are worried about reinstalling panels a cage is not for you.
Weld is the ONLY way.
Bolt in cages are nothing but a danger for show cars to look less like rolling art.

If you have to ask you probably should not be building your own roll cage. There are a lot of angles to deal with and points on the chassis that should be avoided or utilized to have a strong cage.
Dare I ask why you even need a cage?

For the first time ever I agree with this ham luber. :p

unless your in the 11's on the strip you don't need to even think of a cage...as for autocross Id pick one or the other both styles of racing require totally different tuning methods and suspensions...you can get a good mix of track and dd or strip and dd but combining all and trying to be competitive just a losing battle ... pick a path then decide if a cage is right........but then i think back to you not wanting to reinstall the plastic clip on panels cause they're hard I might wait on trying to weld

see thats the thing, i want show quality and also to be able to hold my own on the track while still being streetable. also i just love the way a Painted cage looks in a full interiored car
Mainly bottom line we are just looking out for your safety.
Not to crap on you but you did use Bondo to patch a large hole in your Firewall When you should have made a patch panel and welded it. That is not "Show Quality"
And Without the Properly Developed skills/tools you should not even attempt or intend to Make your own Life saving Cage. I have seen first hand what a broken halo and incorrectly placed xbar shear point can do when it breaks and hits a human. Nasty stuff bro. Plus do you know what the NHRA safety guidlines are for Cage integrity?

Once Again Go to a pro Just looking out for you.

unless you're going to drive around wearing a helmet every time you drive on the street, leave the cage out until you make the car a track car. You don't need a cage to hold your own at a track. You need seat time and driving skills for that.

Well down here at the 1/8th mile track, if you basically run a certain time you are required to run a cage

SCCA-spec cage is the way to go, except it may not meet NHRA's rule about having the door bar intersect between the elbow and the shoulder.
I'm almost sure you have to be going a bit faster than that. IMO, concentrate on sprucing up everything else before considering a cage. Make sure all suspension and steering components are in good shape and that all brakes components are working properly. There are a lot of things that you can do on a 20 year old car before thinking about spending the money on a cage.
If you're dead set on a cage, take it to someone that knows what they're doing. This safety device can turn into a deathtrap out on the street.
