Like the title says what should the compression tester read if it is a stock motor obd1 gsr.

210 is really good. above 180 isn't bad. just make sure to do it with the car fully warmed up and the TB open. also disconnect your dizzy when you do this. if you don't it's easy to burn up the coil

 

I say so next time you wouldn't waste time of not just me, but other people to read you post that is being repeated every week and reply to it. before you post something try searching for an answer first before flooding the server with the same information. also FAQ section can answer a LOT of questions like this 1 as well as the service manual.

Questions like these are asked ALLLLLLL the time. That's the reason why member's are dicks, because half the time they have to answer noob questions, the same ones that get answered 2-3 days beforehand.

A "healthy" GSR should read any where between 220psi and 270psi. Mine reads @ 245-250psi with 16x,xxx miles.

 

Please do not post if you do not know the answer. False information spreads like the plague.

 

somehow it's hard to imagine a stock gsr with 16,000 miles. if the CR is higher, so will be the numbers. most stock type r's only read 220ish. i still have yet to personally see a gsr break 200psi, then again the few i've tested have 150,000 miles or more

 

Stock pistons, therefor stock compression. My motor is just well taken care of, doesn't burn any oil, no smoke, with less than 8% leakdown in all cylinders. I know my numbers are acurate because I used two gauges (Acron and Snap-On).

 

My gsr pumps out 235psi, freshly rebuilt 20k miles ago with all oem valves

 

it was more of the 16,000 miles that's surprising, do you really own a gsr with 16k on it? same with the rarity of not burning oil. 1qt every 1500 miles is pretty common if you drive hard. i actually have a jdm itr swap that has just over 103k or roughly 63,000 miles on it & it's in the same place at 1qt every 1500, of course there are repeated trips to 8400rpm every time it's running

 

16x,xxx miles = 160,000-169,999 miles

To be honest, I don't even know if I have that many miles on the car. I bought the car a year ago, and it was a theft recovery. CarFax shows the car being stolen twice, so I'm uncertain that the cluster is original or reflects actual mileage. All I know is that when I CarFax'd it, it showed around 120k miles in 2006, I bought the car with 144k miles, and it now has 163k on it.

When I first got the car, I beat on it..bad. I then broke my first transmission (synchros were shot, final drive gear's teeth were sheered off). After that, I've pretty much taken it easy. I don't hit vtak as much any more, I don't redline it much, and it only sees a few passes once a month at the track. I've just always believed to take care of my **** and it will pay you back in the long run. Mobile 1 oil with OEM filters or Wix filters religiously @ 3000 miles. I would like to get an oil analysis soon to tell me exactly what's going on.

 

when you do post the results, i'm very curious. also totally with you on the religious oil changes. my engine has never seen anything but synthetic and 2500-3000 mile changes. you really can pro long the life by doing this.

that's still beyond good you don't burn any oil at 163k

 

well, brand new from factory is supposed to make atleast 180 all across so if theres a lot of miles on it and is a bit little lower thats fine but anything lower than 170 on a 10:1 motor isnt that good. and just make sure they arnt more than like 10psi apart.consistency in cylinder compression is good

 

I had 8% on only one cyclinder the others had 5-6% and rebuilt the head. At the time the car had coolant issues. Once the head was off you could see the gas path to the water jacket through the head gasket.
I add one quart every 2500 miles. No smoke. I change the PCV every 6 months.

 

good advice right here, this is where healthy engines use oil. if the pcv plugs or slows down crankcase pressure forces oil past the rings at high rpms

 

I change mine every other oil change for that very reason. When I first got the car, the PCV valve was so gummed up it actually had a little bit of weight to it lol

 

mine is 245 across the board, but its 11.4-1 with ctr pistons...
