Icon2 Turboing after 155,000+ miles

Is it safe?

Any concerns?

Stock, low, factory turbo boost.

No high horsepower goal.

Just interested in boost for daily driving, putting down about 500+ miles a week.

Thank you, guys.

i would but just make sure you have the extra money for another motor or have a spare on the side. compression test numbers and leakdown test numbers dont tell you the fatigue your motor has. bearings wear, pistons melt, and rods bend when under stress. those things wont show up in the tests mentioned.

Im not saying it will happen, i'm saying that after 155k that itd probably be more likely to happen.

^I agree

Do both tests to see the healthiness of the motor itself. But turboing a car with that many miles "could" end up failing a lot faster. Just have some dough lined up. Like my great great great grandma said, you betta have cash if ya wanna go fast.

not a good idea AT ALL. Most people I have seen on S2ki who are boosted end up needing a new motor around 80-100K.

I've been needing to do a compression test and leak down test pretty soon anyway and on top of that my VAFC isn't even working anymore, its wired and everything but no light up on the screen or anything. Car runs factory, vtec still engages at 6000 rpm.

Im going to get the VAFC troubleshooted and depending if the VAFC is fried then Im going to uninstall it and also get my compression test and leak down test first thing tomorrow morning.

I realized that the money I have saved up for a seibon frp hardtop originally, that I can get a pretty good deal on a turbo kit but from what I'm hearing, I think the hardtop is a go and the turbo is a no. Be safe than sorry.

This is the only car I've got and I need it 6 out of 7 days a week.

Keep feeding me your opinions guys bc turbo sounds so nice.

if you need it to commute, wait until you have another means of transportation. boost will still be there when you're ready.

I agree. Beater is a must if you plan to play hard with your daily.

If this is your only car, I would think twice about this idea for now.

I will replace the oil pump, timing chain tensioner, thermostat, fan switch, radiator hoses but before do a leak down test on the motor.

So I got my compression test and leak down test today.

Motor is not at 100% =-(

Compression:
Piston 1 220
Piston 2 150
Piston 3 150
Piston 4 180

Leak Down Test:
Piston 2 and 4 has a small exhaust valve seal leak, not heavy though.

Piston rings are good, head gasket is good, spark plugs are firing great.

The car feels factory. Gas mileage is satisfactory.

Mechanic said just drive the car normally and you'll be ok, just don't touch the engine. Keep everything factory.

I also got my VAFC removed bc that was just a waste of time installed on my car. No tune or anything. Vtec from the VAFC was changed down to 5800 rpm from the factory 6000 rpm. Computer is running factory without any piggy backs. Vtec is now engaging at 6000 rpm again.

Hardtop it is coming soon.

Thank you all for your honda-tech help. The technology we have today to process and eliminate is amazing.

I'm located in south orlando by the loop. Very close though.

So hardtop it is I had planned originally.

with the compression that low and audible leaks from the exhaust valves.. id say you have some bent valves on your hands.. replace them asap or you're going to end up with catastrophic engine failure. that being said.. your retainers are probably all cracked too.

all 4 should be with in 20% of each other MAX, i usually consider 10% too much for a honda with nothing bent

damn....really....i let my mechanic know......

thank you

i also just remember that im having idling problems every once inawhile upon warm up after start up and at a stop. mechanic said it is most likely your idle control air valve. he said it could be stuck. he's gonna take it apart and grease it up.

Dont do it unless you have money for a new motor. Your motor is already shot.

think he wants help on the tech stuff not the turbo advice.

i didn't follow up with this thread since you know, I'm too good for Honda-Tech + collar popping. but seriously it does appear that your motor needs a bit of work to get back to where it should be. If your mech says that your rings and all that are good, then yes your compression issue is in the head itself. If the retainer lets the valve back out a little bit your motor's fizzucked.

I always took people's advice for granted for certain things when they said to go try it for yourself, but I'm finally seeing that now. Go sit in a turbo S2000 and see if its what you really want, ask those people how much it costed and what parts they had.. then double check on here and get opinions from us. I think a turbo S2000 is a unique car to drive, no other car replicates the feeling exactly. The car bucking under load, the one-ness with the car you feel, the aural scream accompanied by the turbo and BOV noises all while retaining daily-drivability and its nice handling characteristics makes it truly a unique package. maybe its time to reconsider that hardtop

look at all the fools in this thread who "don't see a problem" with turboing a motor after 155k. None of them even mention anything about the condition of the bearings!

Nope none at all. Just rebuild it after it blows!
