Default Damn head gasket, I hope

Ok I finally got around to putting the motor back together on my turbo d16y8. It has been completely rebuilt from the ground up. My most recent addition is the new Bisimoto turbo cam as well as his racing valve springs. So I put the head on yesterday and tourqued it down finished everything else and went to start it. Started and sounded great but then i see a moster oil directly below the cam gearwhere the head meets the block. So heres the question, the other day i started to tourque down the head then had to stop then did it a later time trying to use the same head gasket. Do u think that caused the oil issue? I do but i wanted to check. Also any specific gasket type or thickness I will be running upwards of 18 psi. Thanks in advance

well if you torqued it down and left it, that would be okay. but if you torque it down loosened it, and retorque it, then that is a nono

Well you dont torque a head and let it sit, your just asking to warp it.

When you say you torqued it, left it, then came back to finish the job, what exactly do you mean? Like someone else said if you only torqued down like half the studs then yeah it could deff. warp the head. But if you torqued down all of them in steps like 25ftlbs then 50ftlbs then final torque spec and you left it at 50lbs (or whatever) left n came back later you should be fine, As long as they were all torqued together you will be ok.

that's odd, but i agree with these guys about not torqueing all of the bolts/studs down, you should at least finish the sequence for whatever torque step you are on. are you using arp studs?

and you are positive that it is not the cam seal? or valve cover gasket? both could let the oil run down in that general area

I would go check the Warpage. Maximum is .2mm

It doesn't take much, good luck.
