tips on buying used calipers?
Okay if I got to the junk yard and find some calipers, how do I know if they are still good?
They look horrible and more rusty than calipers that are used daily.
Q?
Is there some of pressure test that I can hook up a caliper to in order to find out of the seals are still good?
There would be no reason why IF stock calipers from 10+year old ef/eg cars are still working perfectly fine, the ones in the junk yard would not be....
I'd like to save money but at the same time not at the expense of safety.
Remanufactured calipers go for $50-75, the good thing is that if they junk yard calipers don't work holding on to them will save you $35-40 core charge when you buy new remanufactured ones.
Thanks, Charlie Moua

I just got new calipers. Replaced my old ones with DA. Went to pick a part for the cores. Saved money that way. You can rebuild them but I think the kit still costs about $30. Anybody else?
if either of you want a pair of lightly used and in perfect condition gsr calipers with hawk hps pads around 70% they are yours for $60 shipped anywhere in the usa. no core and less than 5k miles on them since they came from the parts store. i just upgraded to itr brakes awhile ago and these are taking up space
Sorry I'm only looking for ITR front calipers and DA rear calipers in newer condition.
back to the question.... is there a way to test them?

I don't think there is a way to test them. You would have to put them on the car bleed the brakes and hopefully they work. If they don't that's a lot of effort just to test. IMO use them as cores and get new ones. Good luck.
Darn it.... in this cause I just picked up 2 sets of ITR/Legend/accord wagon/crv calipers for $40 (4 calipers and 23T brackets).
I think they are still good because when i took them off the pads looked very very new (maybe 1yr old)
I guess I have to spend a whole weekend testing them out.
Charlie, you should have just bought my itr setup! i only used them for like 3k miles and have almost new axiss ult pads and rotors. all brakets machined by a machine shop (not and angle grinder!) plus my calipers were new from checker with a lifetime warranty!

I didn't even see you post it for sale or anything...
but i doubt you'd sell it for $20 for a complete set.. lol
so where did you take yours to get machined?

trade you my s2k caliper bracket and padss!
I've started testing them by swaping them out on my wife's 01 crv.
So far they are working well and I can't tell any difference between her CRV ones or the junkyard ones.
I think the real test is going to be when I remove them for inspection after 200-300 miles of use.
