Default dial tone like sound coming from air intake

Alright so my ecu is throwing code 14 - IACV when I plug the plug into the intake air control valve while my car is running the rpms increase to about 1k from 500 and a dial tone like sounds comes from my air intake (thats where I hear it from). While the car is running and I unplug it the car almost dies but then recovers to about 500 rmp where it will hold a steady idle. I did just recently take the iacv apart and clean it because it was full of crap. I tried switching the wires around at teh plug and it did not change anything.

I am running a b16 in a 91 hatch obd0 with a aem intake(not sure that the air intake is relevant). Anythoughts as to what I have wrong?

I am throwing code 22 (vtec) but i don't think this would effect it.
Thanks Bryce

My AEM intake does the same exact thing it is normal. It is called resonance.

forget the dial tone sound, it's probably just air resonating in the pipe.

The Idle ALWAYS drops when you unplug the IACV, because it's the IDLE air control valve. It sounds like you may just need to raise your idle at the throttle body. After that reset the ECU and see if the code comes back.

alright thanks for the help just wanted to make sure that my IACV was not going to explode. Ill also check and see if the sound goes away if I take my air intake off.

so I jsut went outside adn checked...the sound is liek you guys said just noise from the air intake but it is still throwing the code.

The only though I have is if I used the wrong plug while doing my engine swap. what color wires are supposed to be coming out of the IACV? and where does it plug into the ecu (pw0 ecu obd0). Or is there a certian voltage that is supposed to be coming from the ecu so I can check to see what is coming out of the plug?

well did a little bit fo researcha dn have come to teh conclusion that the lead wire plugged into the EACV is plugged into A11 on my ecu (blue/yellow wire) and in this diagram http://hondaswap.com/reference-mater...pinouts-28667/ it says that A11 is with A17. My ecu does not ahve anything plugged into A17 so should I run the black/yellow wire that is coming from the EACV to A17 or is that wire just a ground? I would try it and see if it works but the weather right now is crap and I don't want to be working outside so if anyone could give me an idea then let me know

Thanks Bryce

well in the crap weather today I did some messing around under the hood and came to the conclusiont ah the car will hold an idle at around 1k wanders like 100rpm either side of it. Also the lead in the plug has a voltage of like 14volts while the car is running, and the ground wire (black/yellow) does not have any volts with the car running adn the plug not plugged in. Hopefully this will help in figuring out why I am still throwing this code

So I took my car for a drive today and figured out that if I am below 2k rpm then the car bogs/hesitates but once I get over the 2k rpm range it runs like a top. Hope this helps in figuring out my problem

Are you positive you are not actually throwing code 2? An O2 sensor could cause what you are describing.

positive I'm throwing code 14 because I have stared at that flashing light like 50 times and seen the same code..

well fixed my bogging problem......just had to switch the O2 sensors around (hooked them up backwards) I'm still throwing code 14 so I was wondering if there is a way to test my IAVC with a voltage meter to see if it is working.
