87 accord LXi CEL code 12
I was wondering if any of you guys had run into the code 12? I live in a emmissions county in GA so I have to pass. And if the EGR isnt working correctly Ill fail. I already replaced the sensor on the EGR vavle, the let up sensor or whatever you call it. I just bought the car, but have MANY MANY Records, I even have the registration card from when it was first bought in 86! for 12,000! Its a 5 speed hatchback. Any help would be appreciated.
I found the problem, the number #17 vacuum line was cut. The place to put it on the air intake was snapped off. So they just cut it. So I'm going to try to get another one from the junk yard and see where that gets me.
Good luck. My 86LXi has been throwing that code with the pgm-fi light coming on for a while now. I swapped out another egr valve from salvage yard and didn't see any change. I know the valve is opening due to I pulled it off hot one time and the spring valve was out of the egr. I have never broke down and bought a new egr though. A shop told me that the egr passages in the intake need to be cleaned out by drilling out the holes in the intake and cleaning then resealing them. I haven't tried this. I found a post on another forum of how to do it but I couldn't get anyone to confirm it on post reply etc. Hopefully someone here can chime in. I'll check hose 17 on mine today. btw I found a complete manual online at spoonhonda.com if you are interested free download. It has been a lifesaver. Kent
unbolt the egr and let the engine warm up. while idling pull up the egr, if it dies or at least idles like *** the passages are ok. and on these they about never clog up.
most likely it if the constant pressure valve in the control box. it is meant to allow a 7" of vacuum and no more. but they tend to clog up and it doesn't get enough through the hose.
buy a cheap vacuum guage and stick it on the host at the egr and rev it a little to watch how much vacuum you get.
