Spec Miata Roll Cage
I finished this cage a couple of months ago and finally decided to post some pictures of it. My main goal was to gain as much room in the car for the driver as possible. I am currently trying to sell the car, however, if I was going to keep it there are a few extra things I would add to the cage but as it sits, I'm happy with it.

I like what you did with the side bars; that ought to give quite a bit more room for the "full-figured driver" like myself.
Are the bends in the roof bar and that single kink in the main hoop legal in spec miata?
That's a tight fit all the way around; well done, given the space constraints!

Thanks for the compliment. Yes, it's legal. I built the cage to the SCCA GCR's. The main hoop rules only allow 4 bends total, so like the miatacage.com main hoop I used the bend allotment to favor the driver. Unlike the miatacage.com hoop though, I cheated the kink in the main hoop towards the driver for more head room and it also allowed me to run the hoop diagnol to the bend point for greater strength. This maintains the GCR rules of running the diagnol at least 50% the width of the main hoop. There are no requirements for a roof bar so the bends in it are fine; also maintaining as much head room as possible. I used to have a bolt in cage in the car so I have plenty of experience in being frustrated with a "small" cage. It's hard to tell in the pics but theres only about 1/8" between the top of the main hoop and the hard top.
The car hasnt been run since the 2006 season. I ran in SCCA and ICSCC. I got accepted to WWU for the winter of '07 so all racing has been on an indefinite hold which has prompted need to sell it. You were one of Will Schroeder's crews members, werent you?

Thanks guys! Its funny to look at the car now because I've already forgotten about all the parts of the project that sucked and made me wonder why I started it. Good thing those memories fade quickly.
Edit: Just came across your car for sale on SMC. Too bad you're selling, car counts are looking really grim for next season....
