The majority of people that buy aftermarket wheels for their weight don't use them for anything that you'd need a lightweight wheel for. If that were the case, everyone would buy Rota's. Wheels are expensive for reasons other than their weight, including the material their made of, the method of construction, how many pieces make up the wheel, etc.

the work xd-9s are cast just like rotas; they're one of the most expensive cast wheels that you can buy for our cars. here's the point about the weight; you can buy cheaper wheels that weigh less, if weight is of any concern to you. it is to me, because lighter wheels improve acceleration and braking.

as far as looks go, the xd-9 is one of my favorite looking wheels, but i'd never buy them because of their price-to-weight.

I forgot to mention brand as one thing that determines the price of wheels. Unfortunately, Rota has a stigma as being crap. They're cheap (affordable) but they still make good wheels. I'm on the same boat with you. I'd rather have lighter wheels that I don't have to sell a kidney to afford.

Rotas ARE crap. I've seen enough more than enough evidence to make that opinion valid.

yeah, i'm really not sure why rota has such a bad reputation; i think it's mostly from the "hella jdm" people who're pissed that they spent 3x the amount of money on wheels that look exactly the same as rotas. sure rotas are usually heavier and might not be as durable in the most extreme situations, but 99% of people who buy wheels for their civic will never encounter a situation where a rota isn't strong enough.

any personal experience with rotas? i had the rota c8's for 3.5 years with zero issues. went through a few different sets of tires and had the wheels on 2 different cars. i ended up selling them with my last integra and they were still in great shape. plus, the work xd-9 is cast too; they're really not any better than rotas although they cost roughly 2x as much.

i'm curious as to what kind of evidence you have that rotas are crap. just don't post up the 2 or 3 pics of broken rotas that're floating around on h-t; in the accidents that those were involved in, any wheel would've probably had the same outcome. no wheel is indestructible.

Out of 5 ppl I know that rock rotas, They bend alot easier than most wheels, unless you have slipstreams as they are somewhat sturdy, one rim is oxidizing and the clear coat or wtv finish they put on it is peeling off in some places (never used acid cleaner on the wheels), my buddies hatch has a slipstream that never balanced properly after buying them new (wtv sent it back got a new one). Another friend had a set of gt3s one rim had a hairline crack in 2 spots in the spokes.

Honestly I wouldnt deal with that just to save 200-300$ on a set of rims, but really who cares at 500-600$ a set do you really care if you have to replace one rim? I've had my Spoon Sw388s crack on a huge pot hole as well, it's not like any rims are pothole proof and even if they are lighter I highly doubt you will feel the difference between a rim that weighs 8.5lbs and a rim that weighs 10.8lbs unless you are some sort of race track ***** that is constantly at the track.

PS I bought my spoon sw388s for 1,100 with tires as oppose to buying rotas for 650$ at the time with no tires. I wouldn't really call that 4x the price but wtv lets you sleep at night.

Just because two wheels are cast, have you ever thought that one casting process would be stronger than the other...?

Your case isn't a good example. You obviously got a monster deal if you can get sw388s for under $1500 before tires, or your wheels weren't new when you bought them.

Also, Vladd was specifically naming xd-9s as being 2x the price of the Rotas.

No doubt about the wheels they we're off a showcar never driven, but let me get this straight you think the casting/molding process for rota and work is the exact same... There are plenty of ways to cast metal

And there is a set of XD9s for sale on work's website for 800$ how expensive can they be lol :D jk there i know they retail for alot more. I was going to buy them for my FG but passed and bought a turbo manifold instead.

the reason they're $800 is because they're used. used rotas would still be half of that.

let me guess... you bought your sw388's used. again, you can't compare used prices with new. inline4 is selling 15" sw388's for $1700. compare that to a set of slipstreams for $500.
