I bought a 1996 prelude from the dealership today. They didn't know much about it. The vin checks it to be an SI. But the trunk says siR. The seats say special edition. The motor is a h23a1 and its an auto. Just curious to know if there is anything special about the car or if someone just slapped the R on there. Let me know what you guys think.

Is the car Gold by chance? There was a lot of special editions that are Gold. I believe they just have chrome trim & tan leather interior.

unfortunately Si special edition vtec is about as cool as it gets for the prelude, no such thing as 'R' Prelude.


I'd take the leather seats any day, comfort in a prelude is really what it's about.

 

I believe Si's were renamed SiR for the Canadian market.

 

yeah some of japan models came out sir too even in the 5gen

 

If there were such a thing as a Type R, did you honestly think it'd have a non-Vtec engine and a slush-box?

SiR would be a JDM VTEC

The car is white. Thanks guys, figured I would check. I don't know much about hondas. I paid around 3k for the car with 86k miles from a dealer, so I figured it wasn't anything special. But you never know. Thanks again guys!
