1990 Acura Integra Start Up Issue
K I' m reposting because I don['t follow rules very well apparently. Here it goes: I picked up a 1990 Acura Integra Gs for $400 dollars and the guy said that we he bought it it ran fine. About 3 months after he bought it as long as he kept the gas tank full, it ran fine. When it hit about half a tank it woul start acting like the car was choking and it would stall out. What I want to know if this sounds like a fuel pump problem because spark plugs and oil is cool, but even if you floor the gas pedal it won't give any acceleration. I aslo checked the throttle cable and that is cool too. Oh yeah, it also gives off this pretty strong smell.
Thank you,
Michael

the symtoms you describe lead me to believe its the fuel pump.
it's why a lot of mechanics will tell you to always keep your tank full after the half way mark, bc it puts strain on the fuel pump.
it sounds like you have a dying pump.

I agree with HONDRETTI. everything else seems to be doing well, like the distributor, assuming your not getting CEL indications. or hesitating. While your at it, replace the main fuel relay, it sits under the dash, they run about $40-60 at Acura dealer or even cheaper at Honda. Just let them know you are looking for one on a 90-91 civic EX 4door, its the exact same part. But def. you should replace the fuel pump. Have fun tearing the rear seats out.
