UGH cant get timing belt on
Alright...this is admittedly my first time doing a timing belt change...but ive been following the honda service manual step by step...i'm trying to get the new belt on...but it JUST WONT GO ON haha
It's ALMOST there...but i just can not get enough slack to get the belt over the last bit of the second cam gear... Everythings lined up with their timing marks and i ordered the belt from honda..
Anyone have any tips? Am i just retarded? lol
Thanks in advance

I am currently working on this too, you have to get your tensioner backed off as loose as it goes, then get belt on everything by just a half inch, by that time you will have just enough to slide if over the cam gear. Make sure you dont have your balancer tensioner on yet either.
Ahh crap sorry guys, forgot to mention...its an h23...so manual tensioner
errr as a side note...i for some god forsaken reason only have one spring on my tensioner too...will that cause me a whole hell of alot of headaches? any work arounds?
Autoluder:
i was tryin that all night...i got it..ALMOST on there the last time...technically the belt is "on" everything, but the pulley is not all the way on...and i cant push it into place... maybe if i put some spacers in there and tighten the nut down to push it back...hmmm
**edit: Also...just for peace of mind that i'm doing this right...ive been lining the dimple/key on the crank pulley gear with the arrow on the block to time it...my manual says to line up the line on my flywheel with the little prongs inside the inspection hole...but they dont both line up at the same time...so which one am i supposed to use?

Cylinder 1 is supposed to be at TDC. If it is then Flywheel is also at TDC and you can see a white timing mark through the block/tranny opening. Now just line up both camshafts ( by looking at cam gear marks ) to TDC. Place tensioner into place and secure it wide open ( loose tension = tensioner pulley at the lowest setting ) before messing with timing belt. Then place timing belt at all EDGES of pulleys, do not wrap the belt completely over the pulleys, but rather on their edges. Should have enough slack now, works for me all the time.

There are marks on the crank pulley and cam gears that need to be lined up with marks on the engine. Do not time this thing using the flywheel, you could get off a tooth..Mark your stuff when tearing down, makes stuff much easier
might be out of topic but i am in the process of replacing my timing belt, balance belt and water pump and converting my H22A auto tensioner to a H23 manual tensioner( i bought a kit) ....my question is since i havent bought the Tbelt does the H23 Tbelt works with my H22a? i mean im converting it to manual tensioner which comes from a

hey thanks for all the help guys, just got done...kinda...got the timing belt on, but its not tight enough...nowhere near. I thought it looked awfully loose (even after doing the tightening procedure in the service manual) but i figured maybe thats just how its supposed to look, so i started it up and i can just hear it rattling against everything from it being so loose....any ideas on how to get it tighter?
You are probably off at least a tooth or 2. That's definitely not good for your motor. It probably slipped of the crank pulley. Take it of and try it again. When I did the manual tensioner conversion on my H22 I found it easiest to roll the intake cam gear back a tooth then hook that about a half inch in, then try to slide it onto the exhaust gear. You don't want the belt all the way on while still working it. If its just barely on, as mentioned before you should get that extra little bit to get it on all pulleys.
EDIT: Did you rotate the motor 2 revolutions by hand and recheck timing before you started it?

Hi guys, I'm new here and I tried to create a topic but I wasn't allowed to. Anyway. Well I need your help. I own a Honda Prelude 1993 vtec JDM and it needs to change timing belt, water pump, idler and tensioners. Now my question is: Can I use a h22a1 usdm timing belt, water pump and so on for my car? I want to get them from Ebay and they just sell spares for h22a1 and h22a4.
Sorry for writing here but as I told you I couldn't create a new topic.
Thanks a lot.
