Default Name this sleeve job, pics inside, old schoolers wanted

My friend had this sleeved block in his garage, and he told me I could have it for $300, I'm not sure exactly who did the work though. It sorta looks like Javier's old work, maybe a late 90's JG sleeve job?

Next problem is that #3 sleeve is about .020" higher then the rest, like the sleeve came up. I've heard of sleeves sinking, but never raising. The block is O-Ringed, so I was thinking maybe I could just deck the thing and do away with the O-Rings, and hope the sleeve is done moving!? lol.

The block will be going to the machine shop to see if it is even useable, just figured I'd throw it up on here to get a few opinions before going. It would be cool if I could get a sleeved block for $300. My goal would be to make in the 500whp range on race gas, 10.5:1 or so c/r, high 10's in the 1/4, I think thats about all my Innovative GT61s would do.

It may not be a perfect sleeved block but if it would get me to my goal of 500+whp thats all I need, Its a street car, i'm not trying to make 1,000hp.
Heres a pic:

Andy, who the one who owns the block? I think I remember seeing this block years ago. I think it was either Mike or Nick who use to run this a long time ago. Its a JG sleeve job.

I got the block from bryce takara. not sure where he got it though.
Thats what I was thinking.

I think the bore is still 81mm, the battery on my dial caliper is dead so I cant tell. The machine shop will tell me.

Those sidewalls look paper thin from the pic to be 81mm, I would be afraid to bore that any larger

That's More in the line of what I was thinking. Especially when the "raised sleeve" note came up.

It's hard to say from the pics I know but they are not stock sleeves, there's no aluminum. It's all iron or something. Every stock sleeve Ive ever seen is half and half.

If the block does have to stay 81 that's fine, I'm cool with a 81mm less torque will probably help my 60ft times.

Darton, and thats probably the last build you'll get out of that block. Good thing its N/A @ 85.5mm

back to my thread, whatever they are, they gotta be stronger then stock. I think i'll try it out anyways. If I had money for a $2500 bottom end I would have already sent GE a check lol.

Even at 85.5mm those sleeves look beefier than the block posted at the top of the page, personally I wouldnt even touch the OP's block.

Step deck? It insures a better seal when you torque the head down. I've heard a little bit about it... but don't know much about it..so it be a good idea look it up. But... the sleeves dont look that thin to me. I think the photo quality is a little blurry making it hard to see... but if you look at the lower left corner of the picture, you could see that the sleeve is quite thick.

For $300 id run that block...if you don't want to run it... sell it to me for $300, ill pay for shipping =P hahah

for a sleeved block its no ware near $2500.00 we can sell you a sleeved b18a/b sleeved block for 1020.00 shipped and for $100.00 more we will throw in the crank as for the block you posted if its liners there not much stronger then stock and problem is a lot of times there not installed right and mix coolant and oil plus the block guard is installed wrong they should never sit flat with the deck should always sit 1/4 to 1/2 inch below deck because when its sitting like it is it can cause hot spots and blow head gaskets

Just look at the sleeves at the top of the page and then look at the actual sleeved block at the bottom, for one aftermarket sleeves typically are not completely round sleeves, they are thick and sometimes one side is machined flat on the outside to join up with the adjacent sleeve like in the bottom pic, the top pic is 4 independent round sleeves.... the picture below happens to be 81.5mm sleeves, they are 2x as thick!

I'm pretty sure this is Nicks old block. Its a older JG block. I remember Bill had this at one point and tried to put a 2.2 stroker in this block.

there is a reason no racers really use jge anymore. cheep liners and a block guard are nothing like a real sleeve and its a block guard installed wrong at that
