Default H22T KNOCKING from head

97 Prelude with Mahle 9-1 Pistons with Eagle Rods, ARP Head/Main Studs, RC 550's, Cometic HG and a P28 ECU w/ Crome and a greddy Turbo Kit. The engine has a loud ticking noise at low RPM's that seems to subside with RPM's It's possible that the engine noise overpowers the noise and it still exists but it's less audible with RPm's..under valve cover everything looks fine and a valve adjustment was just done since I thought it was the valves so I had machine shop inspect the head and replace all valves... The sound almost sounds like a rod knock but it definitely sounds like it's coming from the head. the ticking/knocking noise seems to come from lower on the head...and It's not just an injector ticking; it's pretty loud and more like a knock. PLEASE HELP!

Hi, my Prelude has the same problem but it's all stock except the AEM CAI.

So if it's the LMA, how do I fix it? Thank you

your a dumb a** .

Any type of knock that seems to be getting worst isn't good at all . I think it's time to take the motor out and take it apart to really see whats the problem not worth playing the guessing game on a forum when it comes to engine knocks .

Good luck man ,

Getting back onto topic, there are a few write ups on LMA replacement already, not any that I know of for the H22A but its the same procedure. Takes a fair bit of time I would imagine but may be well worth if the nasty but shuttle LMA sound is present.

please do not drive your car like that. it sounds like you already got some issues under the valve cover so don't blow it up.not sayin I know for a fact its gonna do that but its not worth the risk IMO you already have a nice looking parts list so spend a grand or so more and get a S300 and a proper tune, and see what the ticking sound is. My bet is on the LMAs. these turbo Preludes are very tricky it seems but if you get the bugs worked out, should be worth every bit of headache.Good luck man.

Thanks bro.I can't wait to see the power with a proper tune..I already ended. Up with 330whp at 12psi on a 20g turbo.(small) and afc....so I hope a lot more with good tuning..BACK TO SUBJECT...UPDATE!! I DROVE IT TO MACHINE SHOP AND HE TOLD ME TO BRING HIMTHE OIL FILTER TO LOOK FOR SIGNS OF DAMAGE TO BEARINGS, AND HE ALSO AGREED WITH U ON REPLACING THE LMA'S....but my only question is, don't the lmas only make a difference on higher rpms? Because u can only hear the knockin at low idle when parked, and as soon as I start to drive and I'm not on high rpms...when I'm parked and I rev it up to about 3000rpms, u can't really hear the noise....
