Default 85' CRX si motor compatability ?

I have a 85' CRX si.. 100% bone stock. The engine is starting to let go and either needs to be replaced or rebuilt. My question is: can I throw any other non-vtec motors in there (88+) and have the OEM manifolds still bolt up and have it run ok? or do I need to still to a replacement motor that is pre 88'? I am pretty much clueless on these models and years so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Nate

has to be 84-87 civic/crx to bolt up to motor mounts. can use a d16a1 from 86-87 teg with vacuum advance for easy swap.

the 85-87 CRX Si uses vacuum to advance the distributor. an 88-89 teg motor will swap, but then you'll have to add more wiring for the electronic advance dizzy.
