Default automatic transmission kicks out of reverse

i have a 99 honda accord with an automatic tranny that kicks itself out of reverse. if you back up a few feet it slips out of gear. if you sit still with the car in reverse as soon as you start to move backwards it slips out of gear. is this an easy fix or expensive?

Strange. Never heard of that in an automatic. Where does the gear selector end up? In 'N'? Does it always end up in the same position? Most likely some action inside the transmission is moving the manual valve. Like I said, never heard of that before.

Have you tried this?
Selector in reverse
Foot on brake
Apply power without allowing the car to move.

Will it stay engaged?

I'd also check that the shift control cable (shift control to transmission) is properly secured, properly adjusted and hasn't been damaged.

I have a 2000 Accord V6 automatic. I replaced the transmission 2 years ago and am now having the same issues described in this thread. When shifting from park to reverse in the driveway the car will travel several feet and then lock up. It feels as though the brakes are being applied. When given more gas it will fight to go backwards and may inch but with great resistance. It does not feel like a slipping transmission, it does not rev high like a slipping transmission but acts as if you have your foot on the brake while going in reverse. When put in park and then back into reverse it will travel several feet without resistance and then start the same cycle over again. It seems to do this when pulling out of the driveway not when traveling on a straight away, stopping and then going in reverse. I don't know if the turn into or out of the driveway could somehow effect this. Is there any way drive and park could be engaged at the same time?

Six year old thread and you have not the same as the op. Maybe a thread of your own will yield results.
