Default Why did Honda/Acura give us the ugly Side Moldings?

I dont understand why and how come the Japan Integra's didn't get the Side Moldings like we did in the USA.

I know the USDM ITR didnt get the side moldings but why the RS/LS/GS and GSR! Man, now I am having a problem with my Integra LS! I dont know if I wanna shave my or not!

The Integra's look so sick with out the moldings but idk if I wanna go through so much trouble shaving my off!.

Does anyone know why Honda/Acura decide to give us the Side Moldings?

The only reason I can think is the protection that the side molding gives but our cars are so low that it wouldn't even help + even if the side protect the car, whats protecting the moldings!? haha

are yours recessed? if so if you want to remove them, you'l have to weld in metal, i've seen people fill them with filler, but then later it will end up cracking. not the right way to do it anyway. I kind of like mine on the 86 because it gives the car character, i'm also painting panda, so they give the color split line.

because they wanted you to buy the other ones. they knew you wouldnt be happy with the ones on your car so they purposely put the ones that you dont like just so you'd go and buy the other ones.

To protect our cars from other people parking next to us and opening their doors into ours and causing a dent. Side moldings are way cheaper to replace then getting a dent filled and paint matched.

to protect our cars from fat americans who don't give a crap about whose car they hit. i'm glad i have side moldings my dad drives my car to san jose and my driver side molding is actually squashed flat cause someone back out and scraped the whole side rofl...luckily no paint damage though haha.

i'm going to shave mine eventually, but that's after engine and stuff lol. shaved looks cleaner

cause they knew Americans are lazy consumers and would rather squeeze into a tight spot close to the door than walk the extra distance to the door of a walmart.

yeah the plastic is just there for door dings. People in Japan are respectful of everyone else's stuff, an amazing concept.

When it's light out I should take a pic of my DC2, the OEM paint is pretty nice but the car is dinged all to hell and back, it's pretty ridiculous.

My side moldings have saved my *** quite a few times. When I do take my car to Walmart/other store, I park right up next to the curb (when there is one) so that my car is a good 6' from the line of the other spot. Of course, that doesn't help when some retard tries to squeeze in between your car and the other car.

yea my side moldings deff are pointless cause ive gotten way to many door dings from school im 50/50 on the looks, mine are color matched so it looks a lot better then with people that are stuck with black ones

Shave it. Just be aware of your surroundings and plus you can't control what's out there. Don't be lazy and park where it is empty even though it's a few steps more. I will be getting mines shaved and paint the whole car after my engine build.
