Icon6 White Smoke from Exhaust on Idle

Topic explains it all.

Straight pipe single outlet exhuast, no cat.

Noticed smoke from exhaust after a hot start, not a cold start.

Not heavy white smoke, not light, about medium inbetween, but noticable from a pretty good distance(40-50 feet away).

Friend said its your coolant.

Any ideas?

Thank you

I don't think its anything to really worry about. As long as its only during idle and not while your actually driving on the road their shouldn't be concern. I had header, test pipe and single exhaust, and it would smoke a little during initial start up/ idle. Nothing major, just very dull white smoke.

more than likely, it's just water condensation inside the exhaust styem burning off.. if it persists after the engine has warmed up, then it would be a HG issue..

i have a feeling its condensation like 92hb says.

there was no white smoke at all today.

floridas weather is very bipolar, it was a very hot and humid day and all of a sudden it poured like crazy.

ill look more into it everytime i turn my car on.

ill get hold of my local shop about a leak down test and a compression test while im at it.

you guys are really helpful.

thank you.

i know in the winter time, it gets pretty cold here. as soon as i turn my car on and turn the heater on while letting the car warm up, a lot of white smoke just comes out consistently for about two minutes straight. i know thats ok bc of the heater and cold weather. ive noticed from a lot of car out in the street while driving. just fyi on my side.

Haha pretty cold in FL.

Sorry...

But anyways if it's not always blowing white steam constantly and smelling like coolant then it is just condensation from the exhaust. Water Vapor is a byproduct of combustion. And if the water vapor is warmer than the outside temp = steam

So I got my compression test and leak down test today.

Motor is not at 100% =-(

Compression:
Piston 1 220
Piston 2 150
Piston 3 150
Piston 4 180

Leak Down Test:
Piston 2 and 4 has a small exhaust valve seal leak, not heavy though.

Piston rings are good, head gasket is good, spark plugs are firing great.

The car feels factory. Gas mileage is satisfactory.

Mechanic said just drive the car normally and you'll be ok, just don't touch the engine. Keep everything factory.

I also got my VAFC removed bc that was just a waste of time installed on my car. No tune or anything. Vtec from the VAFC was changed down to 5800 rpm from the factory 6000 rpm. Computer is running factory without any piggy backs. Vtec is now engaging at 6000 rpm again.

Hardtop it is coming soon.

Thank you all for your honda-tech help. The technology we have today to process and eliminate is amazing.

LOL some of you guys need to take a auto mechanic class..
white smoke=water ( condensation is my pick)
blue=oil
depending on your coolant you will have a tinted color plus it will smell like coolant

Erving whats up it Lance.
Those compression numbers dont sounds great since there more than the 10% difference they should be. I just did one on my car and i had 200x2 and 185x2 its not a big deal just dont abuse the car and youll be fine. What were the leakdown results percentage wise?
Car looks good. ill trade ya my OEM Hardtop for your suspension and wheels lmk.

I don't know the percentage leak from the leak down test. Steve from A-Class AutoBody on Michigan Ave. told me theres two small minor air leaks that he can hear when he put his ear against the exhaust tip.

I hardly even drive the car hard. Everyone is right to not drive the car like I stole it. Which I don't. Especially now that I know the status of my engine. The engine sits the way it is now until further notice from the engine itself.

Sorry Lance, I like my new setup. I've had this setup for about a few months now. I just got the front bumper painted recently. A Seibon FRP Mugen style hardtop is on its way and also a Shine Spoon style carbon fiber rear diffuser. I can't wait for the rest of my plan to come around. Biweekly paychecks suck!!!! Hahahaha!!!! Aside from the hardtop and rear diffuser, a spoiler would be nice but not sure which one yet though. I love the J's GT1 wing but i know thats an extreme wing setup for my calm looking car. We'll see.

My eighteens are for sale. 18x7.5 +48? 215/35/18 and 18x8 +45? 225/35/18. 20mm spacer for the front and 30mm spacer in the back would give the wheels more of a aggressive look bc the dunlop direzza dz101 tires gives the wheels a stretch tire look.

The dunlop dz101 tires were made with a bigger rim protector than other tire manufactures.

Sorry, lets get back to the topic.

White smoke can be either water or coolant. White smoke is caused by engine coolant/Antifreeze being processed in the combustion chamber(s) of the engine

white smoke on idle and accel is also casued by faulty valve stem seals... not sure the condition of your car but if it is abused or was valve stems seals going is not an uncommon thing... JMO

my mechanic that did the leak down test said the exact same thing....he just recommended to not touch the engine and leave the engine as is....and don't take it so hard too much.....so im not the only one out there....
