190/60/15 tires on integra
Hello all, I recently traded rims with my friend who is running 190/60/15. It is noticeably fatter than the stock. My car is lowered and it makes scraping sounds when I turn right or hit any hard bumps. Is it safe to run, relatively speaking? My only concern is that something will slash the tire while I hit a bump. Otherwise I can find some cheapo tire shop who will probably trade tires with me.
Stock size is 205 50 15r or 195 55 15r. So your tires are skinnier and taller than what comes standard. Are the scraping sounds actually rubbing sounds from your tires or is it something else?
The stock size on all US-market Integras is 195/55-15 for models that came with 15" wheels, and 195/60-14 for models that came with 14" wheels.
195/60-15 is the same 195 treadwidth as both those sizes, NOT skinnier, but has a larger outer diameter. That's why they rub.
I recommend replacing them with tires in a size whose outer diameter is approximately equal to the stock size, so it won't rub. For 15" wheels, that means either 195/55-15 or 205/50-15, and NOT 195/60-15. 205/50-15 is slightly wider than 195/55-15, but the outer diameter is slightly smaller (by 1.6 percent), so the clearance is usually about the same.
No and no.
