How does the car act with a new cylinder head?
Hello all,
I have a 1990 honda accord; my timing belt recently lost a few teeth while i was driving resulting in 4 bent valves. Instead of replacing the bent valves i went ahead and bought a brand new head. I know it would have been cheaper to have replaced the valves, but i needed the car asap so i had a mechanic do it for me. The minute i started it up i knew it wasn't running right. I understand the car's computer needs to adjust to the new head, but what exactly is the car adjusting to? The car ran almost perfect before; throttle response was good and all of the above except for the idle. Its always idled strange ever since i put the aftermarket air intake on it (Its either the TPS, IACV, or Fast idle valve). Now, with the new head, whenever I rev it up sitting still, it struggles and sputters a little bit before it gets up and goes
. I'm not sure what the symptoms are if the timing is off, but it seems ok..the only thing is it has more vibration since the old head, but there isn't any ticking or anything.
Anyway, my main question is how does the car act with a new cylinder head, and what adjustments are being made?

So you changed the head but didn't consider about the aftermath of the pistons?? your timing could be off, get a timing light and double check.
Is it 100% the same head that your replaced it with? what engine?

Pistons shouldn't have been affected..the car almost immediately stopped when the timing belt gave. It barely bent the valve, see pic below.
Engine is an f22a1 2.2
I fixed an oil leak today, drained the oil and put new oil in. Not sure what type the mechanic put in, but i started it up and it seems to be running better. Ran it for 30 mins or so. It still doesn't idle right, but once i get the funds i am going to replace a few sensors and valves. It doesn't seem to sputter as much when i open the throttle, but i did notice that when i close the throttle all the way by hand, it shuts off completely. Maybe throttle cable needs to be adjusted??
