Fuel pump fuse keep blowing
ok my friend owns a 88 prelude which ran fine, then one day he went to start it up it didn't start. so i saw that the fuel pump fuse was blown. so i change it, tried to start it and it wouldn't start, checked the fuse again and it was blown. so what would cause this to happen, maybe the relay, any help is appreciated. TIA
sounds like a short circuit. Pull the relay and see if the fuse blows again. If it does, then you have a short between the relay and the fuse or battery. If it doesn't, then the short may be furher down the line.
ok heres an update on the situation. we changed the relay and the old one was bad, but the new problem is the fuel pump won't turn on. so i check the voltage coming out of the relay and it reads 12V. so i rip the back seats out and check the wire there and its only reading 7.5V. so i ran a wire from the relay right to the fuel pump wire 12V. then when i turn it on it blows the fuse. now i'm guessing the fuel pump is shot, i was told is would still run with only 7.5V to it. but i'm not sure. i'm also curious how the factory wire starts out from the relay at 12V and ends up to being 7.5 at the pump. any help is appreciated. TIA
