Does anyone know if a 96 LX accord non vtec transmission will work seamlessly if put into my 94 EX accord with VTEC? Or is it strictly vtec to vtec?

Some wrecking yards say it will, others say it wont. My dad and I are shade tree mechanics so it needs to be super easy with as little electrical problems as possible!

EX and LX 5spd swaps out with no problem. Not sure for auto.

 

the auto trannys are the same so it will bolt right up, but the computer system in the 96-97 are OBDII and 94-95 is OBDI

 

Okay, I gave up on the 96 because i didnt want to risk the problems associated with diff obd1-2....

So. Does anyone know if a automatic tranny out of a 94 lx which is non vtec will go straight into my 94 EX which has vtec? Are there wiring differences between these two?

FWIW.

Our '95 EX(VTEC) 2.2 2dr has a replacement transmission thats VIN is from a '97 4dr LX.
(original transmission was destroyed by PO hitting a rock at speed)
Seemed to work fine. 225K on the car now(and the trans just died, D'oH!)

 

They both will bolt up and run. They're basically the same trans. I checked all the gears, and they all have the same part number for the EX's & LX's.

I've ran a F22B2 5spd trans on my H22 before I got my T2T4 LSD Trans. There's no problem whatsoever.

Well, looks like I can't even follow my own mantra of search first, ask later.
Had I gone to https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-accord-1990-2002-2/1990-2002-accord-faq-1664547/ then scrolled to Drivetrain I would have seen http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=37839.

Looks like the wagons have the Accord gearing, but with the Prelude S coupes FD.
A slight advantage off the line perhaps? Maybe for those of us who have a bit of extra weight*'slap'/bump or just a fatass driver* can gain some of that lost acceleration back. Just have to know the VIN code to identify a wagon transmission.

The vtec trans and non vtec trans from the accord auto are different i have a 97 accord auto vtec and a non vtec trans and it doesnt work at all so im getting one that was used for the vtec engine

 

What do you mean 'does not work at all'?
Only differences on the 90-97 H4A transmission are the gear ratios.
Currently have an MPJA in the Accord and it works really well. Granted economy is only 30MPG but the engine is always near its powerband.

 

I just put a 1994 LX trans in 1997 ex car and it works fine
