Default 95mm stroke + 9,000 RPM = Fun

In case some of you are just now tuning in on this project, this engine is one we've been working on for my father's CRX.

It consists of:

Sleeved 84mm B20 block
Eagle H-Beam rods
CP pistons
Eagle 95mm stroker crankshaft

B16 head
Ported by CC Cylinder Heads ( )
Brian Crower Stage 3 cams
UGR valvesprings/retainers
Skunk2 flat valves

Big-tube Tri-Y header
Thermal 3" exhaust
Victor X intake manifold
65mm TB
3" intake

Tuned on Neptune

We just got the head back on her, and added the 3" exhaust. The old exhaust setup was a 2.25" Tanabe with a 2.5" cutout.

Here's the results

Any questions, feel free to shoot away.

Nope, no vids yet.

I may swipe the car from dear ol' Dad one of these nights and make a quick video on the street.

Did you tune it yourself Derek? If so, how long did it take you?

Yes, I tuned it just a couple hours ago.

Took me about an hour and fifteen minutes or so to clean everything up the way I wanted vs. the old small exhaust w/cutout tune.

That was with partial throttle touching up rolled in with the WOT stuff.

If it were a brand new map/tune/setup, I usually tune something like this in a span of two and a half hours or so.

Good job on the tuning, the graph looks good. That little car should move pretty well with decent traction.

Thanks! The only thing that bothers me about the graph is the hump smack-dab in the middle of the curve, but it didn't seem to want to go away. The only thing I can figure is intake resonance.

The car ran a 12.2 @ 112mph on 22" slicks on the last stock-sleeve 89x85 setup, so we're looking for an 11.9 this year, full interior on pump gas.

The engine also has a 100hp shot of dry direct port nitrous ready to be run, but we'd like to get some mileage on the motor first, as he hasn't had much of a chance to drive it lately.

Over 150ft/lbs at 3k RPMs on a b series! That's ****ing awesome. The torque curve give me a chub.

It looks as if it's asking for more air up top. Gonna try a bigger throttle body?

What were the gains with the 3in exhaust over the 2.25"/2.5"?

We're running 2.5" BC Spec II, and I've been thinking about going with a 3" but I'm not sure if that's too big for her...

Surprisingly, it picked up the most power down low.

The solid line is the current 3" exhaust, the dotted was with the 2.5" cutout open, with the 2.25" exhaust getting priority in the exhaust routing, and a fair bit of oil being combusted due to some problems our head was having.

The compression is 11.7:1 or so.

The switch to the overall larger exhaust made a few HP everywhere.

Oh wow, didn't expect that much of a gain. It should do really good with our compression then...

And no, sadly your record was broken a couple months ago by another K24 with some more compression, and more revs!

Look forward to seeing the replacement!

What is going on from about 7500-9000? The angle of HP curve changes noticeably. Like it is running out of air or the airs not getting out. Or maybe I'm just not use to looking at this type of dyno graph.

Very Very impressive numbers.

The longer the stroke, typically the more of a nose dive the curve will take after peak TQ has been reached. I would expect this thing to fall off 1000-1500rpm earlier if a stock head was used.

Very nice numbers! Very similiar to our 86x89 b-series. Thing should run like a raped ape!

I would recommend getting larger slicks though. At that power/torque level the 22's won't cut it.
