I was driving my 94 civic Dx to work this morning. and went to leave the stoplight. i took off in first and at 4500 rpm the car just fell flat on its face. So i shifted to 2 and it did the same thing at 4000 rpm. So i pulled over real quick, the car was idling like normal, no cel's, but when i tried to rev it, it would do the same thing, get to 4500 and just cut out. I was having an issue with the fuel pump not priming, but i cleaned the ground at the thermo housing and haven't had the problem since. Could it still be the fuel pump? the car has 189,000 on the chasis. probably the same on the motor. Any Idea's? Trying to get an idea of what it could be, at work right now so cant do much diagnostics.

It's called "limp mode". but I've never seen it happen without a CEL. It's the way the computer keeps the car from blowing up when there's a serious problem.

 

have you checked the tps sensor that would be my first guess

 

I was told i may possibly have a bad TPS cause when the car is cold it will rev up and down, the kid that had the car before me said when he unplugged the TPS it wouldn't do it than. From what other people have told me that its the Cold idle valve that makes it do that. I remember one time i forget to plug the tps back in when checking the connections and it wouldn't rev up and down anymore when cold, but did as soon as i plugged it back in. If that was it, how could i check it?

 

i think its the dizzy my friend had the same problem and its the dizzy

 

So..........pretty much the cause of the problem was simple, and partially my fault. the day before a friend and i were removing a cluster f**k of amp wiring, misc gauge wires, etc, from the engine bay. And somewhere alone the line my buddy had taken off the intake hose that goes between the TB and Air cleaner box. and it was squished up on the side of the motor, kinked in 2 places. So it was choking the motor for air.I usually double check all work done on the car but for some reason didn't.
