Default 2001 civic ex - reseting the ecm HELP

i am havin some issues with my car passing california smog, i had 2 shops inspect it and still no answers. so i think i need to start chasing the rabbit here, but before i start replacing parts when should i, and how do i reset the ecm.... replacing parts like the egr valve or o2 sensor can i just unplug the battery or what? thanks for the help

If your throwing codes you should have them pulled first so you can identify the problems that way you don't end up buying things you don't need fixed.

there are no codes... no CEL at all... the cars runs excellent its just failing smog, so i need a place to start

You can either pull the *number 6 fuse from your under-hood fuse box, or disconnect the battery. You'll have to put your car through the Idle Learn Procedure, either way.

1. Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio, rear defogger, lights, etc.) are off.

2. Start the engine, and hold it at 3,000 rpm without load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, or until the engine coolant temperature reaches 194 °F (90 °C).

3. Let the engine idle for about 5 minutes with the throttle fully closed.

NOTE: If the radiator fan comes on, do not include its running time in the 5 minutes.
