Which coilover is the best?
Hey,
I've done a lot of research and have narrowed down my suspension setup to 4 choices. I want a reliable, under $800, good street performance, and low maintainence setup. I don't plan on tracking my car as it is my DD. If I get into track days, I'll probably buy an EF or DA specifically for track use. I use my car for work and can't go too stiff. As far as a drop goes, I want to go flush, maybe a 1 finger gap at most. Adjustability in terms of damping is not as big a concern as long as the shock is tuned adequatley for the spring rate. My four choices are:
Koni/GC ($800)
PIC Apex ($750)
JIC SF-1 ($695)
Progress Competition Series II ($600)
All prices are shipped.
I know everyone is going to say Koni/GC, which says a lot for their perfomance, but they're the most expensive. The JIC's are just something that I really don't know anything about other than the name. From what I understand, they are used for drifting and slammed rides like VIP type cars. PIC has a really good reputation and seems to be everyone's first choice for a true coilover in the $750 price range. Progress has been around forever, is the cheapest, has a good reputation, and you can select your spring rates.
I have a DC4 with 15" BC PF1's with 205/50/15 tires. I've done all the motor work I want done, so now I want to focus on suspension. After the coilovers, I'll get the ASR sway bar package with LCA's. That will round it off.
Thanks for the help, I've learned a lot from everyone on H-T.

What would you guys recomend for a basic daily driver, car is stock & needs replacement now.
Nothing fancy but something good that will last me, best bang for the buck?
Thanks.

it's hard to beat a lifetime warranty with koni. what springs you choose can be up to you but for a $450 set of shocks, the sports are a great buy. if you do not plan on running stiff rates, like north of 350lb/in you can use the koni str.t for $300 a set. the only drawback is that they are non adjustable

I'm sure you may have made your decision by now... but if not I would have to say GC/KY all the way. Many say "well everyone goes that route" and it is a very popular choice among Honda's but there are reasons. Their quality for price is unbeatable along with their ride. I have a few friends who are into the whole dumped thing and are on GC/KY. Their cars ride pretty dam smooth. (spring rates come into play here but after miles and miles of being slammed there holding up and riding smooth) On the performance aspect of things, My friends father bought a 1999 Si new and installed a set of GC/KY. The car saw plenty of track time at limerock park along with being daily driven, and the Suspension was in the car until 08' with 200k only to be installed in another car. Eibach has a spring rate to suit your driving and Koni has a shock that will last you for miles. I had Buddy Club N+ Dampers in my old car, my next car will have the GC/KY set up for sure.
you may have made a decision already but if not you should check out our coilover kits. We offer both a non-dampening and fully adjustable kit.We stand behind the quality and durability of our product and offer a 2 year complete warranty on all the coilover kits.

i heard that the GC/KY is a good setup but the only thing that sucks is that when you want to adjust the damping , you have to take the whole shock out ,, is this true???
