Default How to identify the transmission that came with your swap?

My transmission in my b16 crx has a sticker that says S1 and then a bunch of numbers after it. At first I was like "cool" cause short gears equal better acceleration. However, recently I have been to the drag strip and there have been a few runs where i just get to 8200 rpm or very close in third gear at the end of the quarter. My time slips for those runs indicate a 100mph trap speed. Using this gear calculator http://www.autocrossing.com/cgi-bin/gearcalc.cgi I found that this scenario would be impossible. I am interested in finding what trans I actually have or how to identify what trans I have. BTW I also have a turbo on my car so noone can call BS on my speed.

Sucks for you bro, sounds like someone did the old switcharoo on your swap.

Unfortunately for you there was an S1 tranny offered in the U.S as well, and it was on the 1990-1991 LS Integra, which has the shittiest gearing of all the B-Series trannies.

And also unfortunately the only way you'll know for sure is to break apart the case and count teeth on the ring gear and pinion shaft as well as all the other gears too.

If you have the good S1 from the JDM Integra Xs-i then your ring gear should have 66 teeth and the counter shaft it mates to should have 15 teeth.

66 divided by 15 = 4.400 FD.

The USDM shittier LS tranny has not only a taller 4.26 FD, but the gears are spaced way apart as well.

What are your RPMs in 5th gear at say, 60mph? 80mph?

You should be in VTEC at 80 or so if you got the real B16A S1 tranny.

This is why I always push for people to get the J1 tranny with their swaps because it is for sure the JDM-only Xs-i tranny with the closer gearing and 4.400 FD. Unless someone switches the whole case you know 100% that it's the right tranny.

YS1 could be either GS-R or LS as well, so the J1 is the only sure fire for the good gearing and FD.

Here's a site on B-series tranny specs... http://www.bseries.net/html/specs/btrannyspecs.php

That link is wrong about the cable B18A1 tranny. The FD is not a 4.400 as listed, but a 4.26 FD. I have one here at my shop and I counted the teeth on the FD when it was torn apart.

...And they don't even list the popular JDM J1 or S1 trannies either.

Just found that site on MSN search...not the best one i guess but has enough information for the Novice. at least on the bottom it says to email any corrections. They admit not putting enough research before posting.

This might be a little better chart for Bseries gears...http://ff-squad.com/Bgears.htm

Also has teeth count and a mph test.
