Strange brakes problem
I've got a 89 hatch. Rebuilt the rear drum brakes with new wheel cyls, shoes and hardware. Go to bleed them and we loose brake pressure.
Run around in circles bleeding the brakes (all 4 corners and even the master) and still nothing. Discover that the calipers (both) piston seals were shot.
Replaced with reman caliper, pads, and replaced the master cyls gasket going to the booster (was shot). We got some pedal feeling back and the car stops now, but it has a very low brake engagment. Only thing that wasn't replaced was the brake booster. All lines are fine, nothing leaks, no air in any of the lines. I need to help here I'd like to have proper brakes again.

Rears are drums, right?
Did you manually adjust them before testing them out?
I click the emergency brake one or two clicks and then manually adjust the shoes until I get drag of the shoes in the drum. Release the E-brake and it should spin freely again.
Make sure you bleed the brakes in the proper sequence - it does matter.
Passenger rear, driver front, driver rear, passenger front.
