Default Half-shaft trouble

So I just swapped in a b16a2 in my 99 hatch and aside from the surging idle the only problem I'm having is that the half-shaft was pretty tough to bolt to the block. My question is are b18 and b16 halfshafts the same? Mine is from a 97 gsr. It seemed to be twisted, the bottom two bolts would go right in but the top bolt was like half an inch away. After tightening down the the bottom two I could get the top one in but now it made the axle seal leak, slow drip when parked but flying out when driving.

you damaged the axle seal obviously. replace it.

that half shaft should fit fine.... pictures???

mines only held on by the bottom two bolts in my gsr swap but thats cuz i was missing a bolt... no catastrophic failure yet lol

Does it fit flat against the block when seated in the transmission? I just don't want to replace the axle seal only to force the halfshaft down again and damage it again. I did just check part numbers and the gsr and b16 halfshafts are in fact the same part number. I will attempt to take pictures tomorrow after work.

After searching for differences between auto and manual halfshafts I found one person who said the auto will be slightly off, it seems I've been had by a shifty eBayer claiming it was for a manual, thank you for your replies.

If anyone cares, I found a manual half shaft and it slid right on. So be careful buying a half shaft off someone because the two look nearly identical and would be almost impossible to tell apart unless side by side.

The only mark on the automatic one is it has SR3-38 with a 7 under that stamped on it. That's probably an id for an automatic one but I had no way of knowing, I wasn't suspicious when I bought it.
