So, im going to Atlanta....
To live. And if i dont sell the hatchcrap, that means i have to take it with me... I am going to be staying with some friends in the Alpharetta area first, then possibly moving closer into the city - perhaps around Buckhead.. Do these areas in Georgia have emissions or safety inspections?? If my car is loud (some might think that
) should I go ahead and get ready for tickets?? How about for being too low or a modified import - any hassles?? I dont cruise, streetrace, etc, so I am just wondering about getitng stopped while driving normally.. How are the roads down there - here in VA i can usually go 80 in a 55 without any problems from people or cops- same deal down there?? I am not too worried about theft in either of these areas - if its stolen its stolen.. Final 2 questions - anyone down there into mountain biking or punk music that could help me find some new spots??
Thanks!

FL has no safety or emmissions, so register the car in FL like Johnny Tran does
I've never had a problem but I never sped much when going through GA but have heard horror stories about the GA cops and speeding.

Welcome to ATL
I live in Roswell, right next to Alpharetta - northside ATL is the nice part of town
Emissions testing but new cars exempt for 3 years (2000 model year exempt thru 2003, etc.)
Pretty lenient as far exhaust, ride height goes - but then I ain't no stunna
80 in a 55, depends on the traffic flow
MTB and punk rock - er, better ask the younger guys (Black R, Rated R, etc.)

Speeding is okay (GA 400 is like the autobahn). Can't do it excessively. The exhaust things seems to be a problem were the parts of the city have high concentration of young kids in riced out cars, hence bringing unwanted attention to any car that "appears to be modified" just to make noise.
Buckhead is a very ritzy part of town so I doubt your snatchback will be a target (but if I were a thief that would be the 1st place I look). The north side (From buckhead up) is really nice to live.
I actually compare the stories of VA cops to GA cops and they seem pretty similar. So besides the southern twang and good ole boy type attitudes displayed every once in a while you should feel right @ home (except for the friggen humidity).

**** that, I'm into RAP and Hip Hop dun! You'll have to go to little 5 points and ask around for punk ****.....
As far as emissions, register the farther away from ATL the better... Or pay someone to pass you under the table... Ad Valorem is cheaper in the outskirts too...
As far as speeding and ricey crap - don't worry about it. Everybody here has a lead foot and drives like maniacs. Just use some commmon sense and your best judgement and you can escape the ticket-man time and again.....
I drove for 2 months straight just open header through public parks and ****... no problems. Just don't go WOT VTEC right by a cop. AND my tags are expired.

As for your car, don't worry about it. Atlanta isn't known for cops busting your *** if you aren't doing anything wrong. As for speeding, you can probably speed on the major interstate and get away with it, but I wouldn't advise it because you aren't used to Atlanta Traffic...and trust me...sometimes it's clear and the next minute it stops.
And for the comment made my Shane about Northside of town being nicer...hey it all depends on what you consider nice. If you like to live in an area where it takes 3 hours to go down 2 blocks, good for you. But Southside is the best side of town to me. Open land, and plenty of roads to travel on and cruise on. More trees...just more fun down here. I could not live in the city or the Northside of Town.

I like the Northside but all my friends are on the south side with the exception of a few. Oh yeah Forest park is doing **** like pulling peopl over for an exhaust being too loud (Me). And iwasn't gunning it. So avoid Forest Park around 4-7 pm (That's when Officer Shader is patroling that area).
Ken were you joking or are you really into hip hop (Rap is garbage and yes people there is a difference).

My mother tried doing that then the police in Cobb county started cracking down on anybody with out of state tags.
Well First thing you have to do is listen to JD/Ludacris's song Welcome to Atlanta. Thats your formal welcome! After you hear that you will know where to ball outta control.
Cops...no big worries..they dont really hassel import guys that I have ever seen unless you are invloved in some serious street racing like on Moreland Ave. Being lowered...cops wont even look twice.
Buckhead is a VERY nice part of town, but very rich! and some very snooty. Real Estate there is major bank $$$$ So is a lot on the norther side of town. I live on the SOUTH SIIIIDE (In my best Ice Cube voice). Its great down here cause traffic isnt a problem which you will come to hate on the northside. And you will soon find out that no matter where you want to go in Atlanta...its about 30 miles or 45 minutes away
Mountain biking. Tons of places. Check local papers and bike shops for areas around you. Try Creative Loafing (free paper). Stone Mountain Park Im sure has places too.
Punk Rock. ATL is filled with all sorts of clubs and local bar/pubs who have bands play all the time. Again check Creative Loafing and also check out Little Five Points and you will find all the info you ever wanted. You can also check out local radio stations websites for info on when bands are playing certain local spots.
So what brings you to the ATL anyways? You coming alone? Family? Oh and you hatch might sell quick here in GA...lots of people always looking for them.
Hit us up anytime you need something (directions or what not)

And I don't like mapquest. If its on the north side of town I can give pretty decent directions. On southside......i'm still getting to learn it.

I live on the south side of Atlanta as well (McDonough/Stockbridge area). It's pretty cool and there are alot of autox-like roads where I live, not to mention there are so many gross cars down here to mess with.
Say it aint so Ceas... Say it aint so...
We really need to meet up soon so I can get some pix of our cars for my own eye candy pleasure.
So ya gonna hit up da dirty souf... be carefull down there Ceas... I have family down there and remember I was born down there too. Kinda spooky huh!?

Oh, I forgot to mention to NEVER leave your car parked in Southlake unless you can see it. My GSR got broken into and they tried to steal it but couldn't get the steering wheel unlocked so they took the f00king cd player. If I would have walked up I would have ripped te bastard's arm off and beat him with it until he lay in a pool of his own wasteful blood. Then I would rip his head........oh.....right..... Just don't park your car at the AMC 24 movie theater in Southlake.
fEEsh: I see you are form Mcdonough...my neck of the woods? Have I seen you around? Ive parked my Type R at that AMC on and off for the last 2 years...no probs what so ever (knock on wood) I know cars get taken there...but cars get taken everywhere...you have to know where to park and what to do
Do you go to the auto-x's?

Do you go to the auto-x's?
No, I just got my license back in April so I haven't really been racing in any big events. By the way, I see that your ITR is for sale. How much?
P.S: I didn't even know there were any autox's around here.

Well, I to am moving back to Atlanta this Friday. Thank God, cause South Georgia SUX! Anyhow, be ready for major rush hour and lots and lots of construction (they are always making some road wider!). As far as the music, I would suggest Little 5 Points. And the mountain biking, probably the North Georgia Mountains, I have a few friends up there that bike. Welcome to Atlanta.
Music: Pick up Creative Loafing, go to Little 5 Points
Autox: look at atl-scca.org. we run at Turner Field, the last points event this year is this Sunday. There is usually a good import turnout.
Mtn. biking: there are some good trails in Alpharetta. I can get directions if you need them.
Welcome,
Ben
