Default CRX Starting Problems

My friend's crx randomly shut off while driving to work, now it wont start back up again. The engine is turning over, there is spark, and there is fuel. We made sure the engine was not being deprived of air. I did a compression check and found that cylinders 1 and 2 were at 150 psi while cylinder 3 read 200 and 4 read out 210. Although the engine is probably on its way out, shouldn't the engine still start?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

So it will crank and fire. Will it stay running if you keep the key in the start position? ya know don't let it spring back to the on postion...

When it shut off did the the idiot lights go out?

Turns out the timing belt skipped a tooth. We replaced that and it ran fine for a while. Now randomly the car wont start on some tries, and will if we give it an hour and try again. Any ideas? Thanks again.
