2002 Civic Misfire Issue
My buddy has a 2002 Honda Civic. It has a motor from a 2004 Honda Civic (automatic). He gets a "Misfire on all cylinders" code. He has no power whatsoever and we are about to trouble-shoot the wiring harness but I first wanted to see if anyone might know of any differences between the 2002 and 2004 that could make this happen. Any help is appreciated.
is it a DX, LX, or EX? Depending on the trim, you have either a d17a2 or a d17a. One has vtec, one doesnt. Also, troubleshooting a misfire issue should be universal with all cars, no matter what kind of motor it is. Did it work before and all of a sudden stop working?
PS. Its a holiday weekend, what did you expect? Not everyone spends all their time on HT.

Yeah....they do. It's a non vtec motor. I and my friend have come to the assumption that it's a wiring issue or an ecu issue. We're assuming that the wiring could be slightly different between the model years of the engine he bought. With that thinking that could mean that the ECU (from the old engine) is good to go but that some wires need to be moved around.
Sounds like you need an ECU. Probably a new harness as that one is likely faulty. I'd put a new ECT and MAP in it, too. If the Check Engine Light comes on but then goes out you should definitely replace the steering column. Hope this helps.
By the way, advice can be free but GOOD advice costs money.

I keep telling him it's his ECU or harness. The guy doesn't want to listen. I see that you're an ASE Honda Master Tech...I'll use that as leverage to get him to fix it. I'm tired of him bitching about it and ignoring my advice.
