Default 1990 Honda Accord, Here's a good one for you!

OK, so here goes...

Today I bought an IMMACULATE 1990 Accord LX Coupe. This thing is cleaner than a whistle, 105,000 miles on it. Owned by a little old lady up until 2 years ago. Guy gave it away for $300 because he thought it had a blown transmission. I get it towed home, drive it in my parent's alley, shifts through fine.

Here's what's happening. (This started about 2 weeks ago according to previous owner.)

The car starts a little rough (it turns over easy, but doesn't have that dependable Honda quick start time, it takes a few seconds before it kicks on.)

Once it's on, it idle's fine, and revs through the RPM spectrum fine.

Once it gets to temperature, it bogs out, whether you're driving it or just sitting at idle and slowly revving it up. However it will still idle fine.

I don't think it's the timing because I have documented proof that 6 months ago he had the timing belt redone by a Honda Dealership, I have called them and they verified.

I have read some things across the net. EGR valve, O2 sensor (which was my initial thought), main relay and the dealership even said it's possibly clogged injectors and that they need to be bored out again (which they stated was a common thing in 90-93 accord fuel rails.)

After the last time shutting it down, at temperature, it refused to start back up. There was a *slight* "backfire" but it didn't sound like a true backfire, more like a hiccup, which would happen every 9-10 times that it would turn over.

Any suggestions? I have a 1991 Honda Accord EX sedan that I can cannibalize parts off of, so if any suggestions include parts let me know, and I know that the 91 runs (one cylinder misfires), so any parts I pull will be reliable.

If you can give me a few starting points, that would be great. Thanks for taking the time to read my wall of text lol.

i had similar issues on a 1990 civic recently. after already having swapped all fuel and intake components (dashpot, MAP sensor, IACV, throttle body..) nothing changed.

i thought it was the transmission for a while... flushed and replaced the fluid and it improved slightly so i thought i was on to something. however, before i made anymore progress on the transmission troubleshooting, we tried new plugs, wires, cap and rotor... completely fixed!

i had even tested for good spark.. but only at idle.

lesson of the story: start simple. do a tune-up with new parts.

Yea, maybe I should start there, the only thing is that I didn't think to look at that because all the plug wires and D cap looks immaculate. Not so much so like it was just cleaned, but like they were newly replaced, however perhaps that's what it is. I'll have to give that a try tomorrow, because really I usually do Tune-up, Oil Change, and Tranny Oil Change any time I get a new Vehic, because you never truly know the last time it was done.

Anyone else ever have similar experiences?
