pilot bearring question
hey, my father needs me to swap my old motor into his car.. i had a d16z6 and i had a lot of pilot bearing noise when i had it in my car. just asking, do put the bearing into the flywheel? Or do you seat it in the crank? Thanks
Think about how everything assembles. You bolt the flywheel with the clutch and pressure plate to the crank. The tranny input shaft then slides into the clutch. Check the fit of the parts. It should be pretty obvious.
Pilot bearing installs into the back of the flywheel. You can use a socket to punch the old one out. Make sure the hole is clean before reinstalling. Make sure the socket only contacts the outside of the pilot bearing. Any pressure on the rubber seal or inner metal sleeve can damage the bearing.
To make sure you have it in straight when you are done, put the flywheel onto a clutch alignment tool and spin it. If there is a wobble in the flywheel, you do not have it installed perfectly straight.
