Default motor "dies" at 2000rpm

i have a 90 civic with a stock lower end, and a z6 head swap. everything converted to obd1, the car runs great.

this problem happens more often than not.. i will slowly come off the clutch in first and simultaniously slowly give the car gas. now the motor runs beautiful up until 2000 rpms. it seems like as soon as i hit 2000rpm, the motor drops to maybe 400rpm, almost like the motor is "shutting down" but just for a second or two. then if i keep my foot off the clutch and my other foot steady on the thottle while this is happening, the motor "re engages" and the car jumps really f****** hard and continues accelerating from 2000 rpms. no problems accelerating at all after this "jump" happens.

so to keep from this happening on the road, i need to get the car to about 3000 rpms before coming off the clutch to launch. this poblem happens in all gears including reverse. and the problem was really bad before i did the head swap. but iv had two different transmissions in the car. it also does this while i have the car in neutral. so i am sure its a motor issue.

when i had the original head on the car, i was under the impression i may have had a stuck valve... thats one reason i did the head swap. the motor is so much more responsive now and im a little further from the "jump" problem iv been having, but the problem is still a big issue.

** iv tested vacuum lines briefly, no leaks!! im going to further test vacuums tomorrow, but im sure thats not my problem.
