Default rebuild or swap

i have a 1995 lx with 170,000 miles with engine problem and cracked head. I have two options 1. let the shop rebuild entire engine for 1200 or swap for a jdm f22b 600-750 for longblock. is it even worth rebuilding or would it be better to swap in the jdm. plus with jdm will i have problems passing Georgia emissions.

Just get a engine with low miles delivered to your mechanic from a online jdm shop, change timing components and be done with it. I have seen the f22b2 and 1's online for about 400-600...

Google "tiger japanese" or "hmotorsonline"

All have low miles.

Everything should be a direct bolt. I heard for the OBD2, you'll need to transfer over the crank angle sensor and what not.

All of the JDM F22B SOHC Non VTEC engines that I have seen are the same as the USDM OBD1 F22B2. CKP and TDC sensors are in the distributor.

Even if they were different. Your mechanic could swap the oil pump and distributor if they needed to. Very easy to do with both engines out of the chassis. 20min tops.

As far as I'm know it's a direct swap.

thanks for the help. Since they are the same engine i shouldn't have any problem with emissions or changing the ecu

There is a crank sensor on the 96 and 97 located near the crank pulley. I read that the OB1 has it integrated into the distributor. If my car was OB1 I'd stick with OB1.

Are you sure that the 96-97 JDM SOHC F22B are the same as the USDM? I've helped a few people with JDM F22B SOHC swaps that were OBD2 but still had the OBD1 style wiring with the CKP & TDC in the distributor. Yes, the USDM OBD2 96-97 do have the CKP & TDC mounted to the oil pump housing. I'm not so sure about the JDM engines though.

Can anyone who has bought a 96-97 JDM F22B SOHC confirm?
