Default Need Help with 91 hatch DOHC zc

I've had dohc zc engine for years and in a couple of different cars, with no problems until now. About a month ago the bearings in the distributor went out/locked up. I picked up another distributor the other day and put it on and the car fired right up. The car runs fine at idle, but when you raise the revs it misses and spits and sputters, it does it even worse when I try to drive it. I am not sure where to start trouble shooting, by looking at the cam gears it does not appear to have jumped timing, if anyone has suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. I need to get this figured out asap, since this is my daily driver and the car has been sitting for over a month. So any help would be great. thanks in advance.

when you turn the key to "ON" the CEL should come on for 2 seconds and then go off - when the CEL is on for 2 seconds, the LED on the ECU will be on - when the CEL goes off, the LED goes off - this would be normal - if the ECU continues to blink once, pause, blink once, pause, etc., you have a code 1 for O2 sensor

did you put 88-89 Integra distributor on it? - do you have the spark plug wires in the correct location on the distributor?

Apekd, thanks for the response, the cams gears look to be in time, i guess i will pull the lower cover and check it out , if it is timing its not that far off since it cranks and idles fine and even runs out first gear sometimes with no hesitation, but as soon as i hit second and get in the gas it starts hesitating and sputtering really bad. thanks again

jlicrx, yes i did use an 88/89 integra distributor and your picture yesterday i found on another post to make sure my firing order was right, the CEL comes on for the 2 seconds and then goes off, the led on the ecu just makes one quick flash as soon as u turn the key on and thats it. Is that actually your car in the pic of the engine, if so, i would like to talk with , if you dont mind about the carb set up, i really want to put a set-up like that on my zc, i already have a pair of mikuni solex carbs, my email is 88crxsi@gmail.com

[QUOTE=SugarsEK;39811972 fuel filter..[/QUOTE]

How long did your car sit? What grade fuel where you running? It idles fine but when your give it gas it boogs out / holds back on you right? I think your problem is in the fuel system! Maybe somethin blockin the flow of petro (sedement in the tank or a cloged feul filter). Goodluck. let us know what you find.

Did you replace the cap and rotor on the used distributor that you installed? Did you set the ignition timing correctly? How old are the plugs and wires and what brands are they?

What you're describing is characteristic of bad ignition components, and considering that the distributor is the only variable that you changed . . .

Still nothing yet> But to answer some questions, i replaced the cap,rotor,coil, and ignition module in the distributor I put on. I run MSD wires that are about a year old and NGK iridium plugs that are not that old, but I did clean them just to do it. The ignition timimg and firing order are set correctly. The car has been sitting over a month under a covered shop. I only run 93 octane gas or higher in this engine. Hopefully that covered all the questions. I will be going back at it on the zc in a couple hours, fuel filter and injectors were going to be next on the list. But for a recap the car starts and idles fine and even sometimes runs through first all the as long as I don't open it all the way up but as soon as i hit another gear or give more throttle it bogs down and spits and sputters. Thanks to all that have tried to help, maybe we can get this figured out today.

OK start the car and play with your throttle a little and what happens? does it spit and sputter with no load on the engine(reving motor in nuetral)? New fuel filter helped a little( run better or didnt boog out as much)? Let us know how it runs after u clean up the injectors.

its not throwing any codes, while sitting in neutral and reving with no load on the motor the bogging isn't constant , it will do it on some revs and sometimes it wont, sometimes it will try to clear up and sometimes it just worsens. I putting the cleaned injectors back in later tonight, i will let you know what happens. thanks for the help

Check your map sensor is hooked up to your intake manifold correctly, check that the hose that connects them is in good condition with no splits.

A vacuum leak will cause the car to run rich.

The hose fell off my map sensor, and although the car idled (just), it would miss, blow black smoke and run like a bitch.

put the cleaned injectors in and its doing the same. Next i will try map sensor < then double check the timing. Then< i am really not sure what to do. Could the distributor locking up possibly tweak the cam? I am just kinda stumped on this one, i just don't think it's something too major being it starts and idles perfectly fine, but who knows?
