92 GS-R with serious wiring issues...
Hey all, I could really use some reliable here on my next project...
I bought a 92 GSR a few weeks ago, got it for a very good price, the previous owner referred to the car as "having a mind of it's own" , "sometimes things just don't work" he said. I examined the car really well and found out someone at one point has butchered the a lot of the wiring under the dash... (I'm not kidding, it's terrible)
Bad enough to make me want to swap an entire under-dash/engine/engine bay harness...
I'm having a terrible time finding a manual OBD1 DA I can pull the wiring from, tried 4 junk yards and a couple of parts cars (were worse than mine...)
My question to those who can help me is:
Can I pull the wiring from an automatic (ls/gs)? It seems to me all I will need to modify is the harness for the automatic shifter, making the car think it's always in "park", and also custom making a reverse light switch...
Thanks in advance!

hey there... yea i bought a 96 civic with a butchered engine bay wiring harness making it throw all kinds of codes but ... i would buy a harness off of ebay or a site the specializes in wiring harnesses ... thats what im doing, bcuz junk yards dont have what i need but i wouldnt do the auto harness cuz it'll b more of a head ache then you really want... neways my advice is to jus buy a new wiring harness thats uncut
No, you wont have to rewire anything as crazy as what you're saying. Auto and manual is probably interchangeable.
I can't see changing the whole engine harness either. Is the insulation on all the wires burned off? Or is it just like an alarm install gone bad? Take a pic to give us an idea.

thanks for the info, guys!
The engine harness is fine, I actually have a few extras and am using one now, my issue now is the interior harness... it seems to me some VERY inexperienced person (to be nice) messed with it, my guess to install electronics, although when I bought the car it appeared to be bone stock, I found evidence of gauge wiring badly done, it may have had a ridiculous wire tucking at one point, some of the wiring has been melted together, it's a big hot mess... I'm surprised this car never cought in fire to tell the truth...
I found a parts GSR today and will go tomorrow to take a look at it, wish me luck! best case scenario I'll come back with my truck full of stuff!
Thanks again!

Are you on g2ic.com... couple threads on parting out 92-93 LS's...
so the dash or the chassis harness has been butchered? If its just the dash then you can use any dash harness from any of the 90-93 DA's as I'm pretty sure they're the same (aside from possible changes due to ABS.)

after looking at it today, something serious went on in that car, the dash has been definetely removed and half of the bolts aren't there, the fuse box and most of everything has been zipped tied!!
I'm definetely removing everything, just wanted to know if the auto and manual are pretty similar, it seems to be from what I can tell...
There's a guy on seattle area craigslist that's been trying to sell a 92-93 GSR body harness for a long time. He said he has everything except the engine harness. Maybe you can get him to ship.
