Default problems starting/

well this past monday at work my car wouldnt start. ended up push starting and getting home.

the next day, car started fine in the morning, then after i was going to leave after making a few stops, car wouldnt start again, i let it sit for a bit and started up within 20 mins or so.

then yesterday car didnt start, pulled the starter out, had it tested, passed, put it back in and car started up. went to work, left work, car started up fine.

then today. car didnt start again, let the car sit for 10 mins, then started up. went to work, and left work, car started up fine. went to gas station, car started fine and went home.

so i really have no idea where to start to look for the problem, the alternator is good as well as the battery.

cliff:
car doesnt start sometime. sometimes starts up fine
starter was tested and passed
battery and alternator are good.
problem randomly started monday nite.

Hey,
what kinda car do u have??
I had SAME EXACT problem, with my 2000 integra that i jsut bought with 92K miles, and on hondas for some reason PGM-FI relay go bad PRETTY OFTEN,
This is big relay locaed under steering wheel on the left (anyways on integras they do) and it has brown connector,
I recomend replacing that, that big relay has 2 smaller relay in it and first one is responcible for sending power to ECM/PCM and the other one powers up the fuel pump with key on...

how i found that out is i started testing my fuel system, i took hose off fuel filter and asked friend to turn key on ( FUEL SHOULD spray hard and alot should come out) well in my case nothing happened, so i asked to cycle key again , and a little bit of fuel came out, on the 5th time fuel sprayed like crazy and on the 6 time thing happened again, so i replaced that relay and my problem got fixed so far... i had no stars and looooong cranking time before my car would start, but see if that fixes your problem and let me know please if it did....

my friends integra E_swift did that through out most of last year. He found out his ECT sensor

he had also tested his starter , got a new dizzy, and replaced his mainfuel relay the ECT was the winner

find the link for you hope it helps you out

I'd check the coil and icm, maybe they are starting to go bad. If they test fine, it might just be a loose connector somewhere.

As it has been stated, the PGFI Relay (or main relay) is notorious for going out causing these intermitten starting issues. It is a $25 part that is very easy to change. Given the age of the cars equipped with this relay, it is a smart (and cheap) place to start.

A bad ignition module (or igniter as I've heard people call it) is all or nothing not intermitten.

Good luck,
Alex
