Default Tried my hand at polishing

So i was bored and decided i would try and polish a spare fuel rail i had laying around

i used 180 grit 320 grit 800, 1000, and 2000 wetsand

polished with Brasso

it still has some light sanding scratches in it, and a little salt corrosion left (i didnt spend very long sanding it)

overall i think it looks ok

looks decent if u use mothers polish and hit it 6 more times it should take out those light scratches, metal polishes are like a very fine sand paper, thats what causes the metal to shine.

uploaded a before pic for comparison, cause everyone likes before and afters

i hope to polish, or semi polish most everything, like dizzy, valve cover, intake manifold.

this car came from new york, so its pretty corroded

edit:

plan to get some mothers as well, i know it is the best, all i had was brasso here. which isnt really made for aluminum

That looks pretty sweet dude! for you!

I have my spare Y7 fuel rail laying around, I may give this a try to give the bay some "flair".

PS: Its really hard to polish a VC, im still not done with mine.

you can polish anything other than feces. just work your way up with sand paper. use your judgement, start with 800 or so and work your way up to 2000, and when even 2000grit will scratch it, its time to go to terry cloth and a mothers polish.

seriously anything but feces.

I love using the mother's polish at the end. Thats when you start noticing the shine come out. It takes a while but comes out really nice at the end.

starting with 800 will work on something like the fuel rail as its pretty smooth to begin with.

but if you have something more porous like a valve cover, you will have to start with a coarser grit paper to level out the "pits", then work your way up to 2000.

if you can, 3000 does exist, its pretty expensive and harder to find but it will damn near shine something on its own.

i plan to redo my fuel rail, as its still got some heavier scratches (it had some pits from the salt corrosion) mothers wont take out those large scratches, which i find to be an eyesore

Wrong! On Mythbusters they polished a ball of poop into a very nice shine
