B16 Valve seal replacement/Port/Polish Head?Performance Increase
Hey everyone, i have a 99' Si with a stock B16 and the head seems like it needs a rebuild, or maybe valve seal replacement, I did A compression check on the motor and it was decent but it burns oil in vtec and I was just wonderin if I do a port and polish and replace the valve seals will I see a performance increase w/ stock cams and cam gears?..................from what im told the B16 is the best flowing head and I just want to be able to feel vtec hit a lil harder any help would be appreciated
If you're using all stock components, the difference after a port and polish would be modest at best. Upgrading springs and cams on a stock port head will give a much bigger kick than the p and p.
Replaced valve seals will only stop any smoking from worn seals - so only a power rejuvination, not increase. Most porting will do very little in such a head, esp with a stock cam.
Best increase you can do is get a CTR or ITR cam combo. It's a good idea to get the appropriate springs too. W/o tuning or other mods, it's mostly the extra noise that will be noticable - they are very loud with a short intake. Otherwise a GSR cam set can be had for as low as ~$50 used. They tend to give a modest power increase.

so if i replace the valve seals and cam seals, but I dont port/polish the head, I will just have a rejuvination of power....basically back to stock, correct? (because at this point, I am just lookin to stop the oil burnin in vtec and keep the stock power band, until i can save up for boost and a different motor) thanks
