problems after rebuild
Ok I did a search and couldnt find anything that helps. Also I dont know where to post this. So if its in the wrong place please move it.
Ok here we go.
I have a 98 GSR. I bought it as a theft recovery. I put seats and a jdm GSR motor and ecu in it.
I got cough running a jdm motor. Cop said I cant drive it till I can get it signed off. I had a short block sitting around. So I decided to put my jdm hear on to the usdm short block. Tore the block apart honed it, put new rings new main and rod bearings. I used the jdm crank, pistons and rods. Bolted it all together with the jdm head. also cuz the intake manifolds are different Im using my brothers intake many off a usdm GSR. Im using a GSR ecu that came with my shell.(so I dont know how good it is). Well after getting everything bolted together and back in the car I started it up. First it started no problem, ran a little rough but that cuz the timing was off. But than it began to sputter and choke than die. So I started it back up this time it took a few turns. Oh and the check engine lights been on since I turned the key to on. Today I started it up no problem rolled it out to the end of the drive way cuz it still smokes alot and the smell is funky. It only died on me once but that could be cuz i had my foot on the gas a little and every time it would start to sputter id play w the gas and get it back. Well now that its at normal operating temp I shut it down, then I decide Im ganna back it back into the garage. When I try to get it started it take for ever it cranks sputters but wont start. I noticed that when it does that the check engine light flickers wile everything else stayes on. Also when it was running it would sputter when the check engine light flickered. Also some times the light is vary dim and theres a weird noise coming from the dash on driver side, which goes away when you turn the key off then on. But now when I somehow manage to get it started when I try to back up it dies. As if it dont have enough power. And if you hit the gas fast or about half way it chokes and stalls out. I tryed slowly reving it up than backing up but it dies as if it dont have enough power.

K i changes the vtec solenoid now it starts and stays running. but it still bounces up and down and still has no power. i loosened the dizzy and moved it back and forth, and it seems that when its tilted towards the firewall it bounces more, when i tilt it towards the front of the car it seems to run smoother.
And when i floor it it dies.

Ok. Got it fixed.
It turnes out that the tps and the map sensors have the same exact connectors. I had them reversed. Switched them around and the car runs like a dream.
Next problem..... Anyone know why my tach isnt working. It worked fine before.
Which sensor/sensors are used for the tach?
Also ignition timing.... Whats better advanced or retarded? What difference does it make?
