Default What is this bike worth?

I am working on getting my motorcycle license. I have very little expierence with riding a motorcycle. I plan on getting my temps on saturday. My uncle teaches a safety class I can tke and take my license test through the school.

Well my buddy has a 1999 with 14,000 miles on it. I know very little about the bike other than it is a 600CC engine and it has new tires which he said he paid $400 for them. He said he has never laid it down and I have yet to see it in person. If what he says is correct what would be a fair price for this bike?

It's a good bike. Probably a little of a handful for a first timer, but if you are smart you should be ok. It is best to start small (get a ninja 250 for a summer) just to learn throttle control and the basics of riding. The bike pictured is a Honda CBR F4, 600ccs. Not as race inspired as the new 600s, so it will be more comfortable and ride easier.

Will I have any reliability issues? So everybody agrees somewhere around 2,000 would be fair?

I would recomend getting something smaller, you seem really uneducated in bikes, and a 600cc bike is a lot for a new rider, even more when you dont even know what you are getting.

Depends, if you're young and a bit of a nutcase in cars etc, then it might be a bit fast for a first bike.
If you're older or more level headed, and just want to cruise within your limits then it could be an ideal bike? The CBR600 was (maybe still is) available in europe as a factory restricted, 33 horsepower model to comply with learner laws here

I will look into a smaller cheaper bike. I dont want to kill myself.

I am very level headed.

should be fine as long as its not too physically big or heavy for you.
Even if you do fall or scratch it up a bit you would'nt lose much on a 2 grand bike
as for reliability issues the CBR was generally bulletproof but, as with any vehicle a lot depends on its history

you might have a better idea of what suits with a lesson on an instructors bike or your friends CBR, if he lets you!

My plan is to take the class and get my license and see how comfortable I am from there. My uncle has a few bikes and I am pretty sure my buddy will let me ride his bike. He offered to sell it to me on interest free payments. So it seems like a pretty good deal. I just need to talk to him about the price.

I think more than 2200. Last season my friend sold his f4 with 20k for 3500 and his was laid down. The market in IL though is expensive and as I can see has higher prices than other states. I say 3200 is an ok price. I see f3's going for 3000 all day long around here.

Before you go spending a few thousand dollars on a bike I suggest you do some homework because you don't seem very knowledgeable about motorcycles. For one I wouldn't buy a bike that isn't fuel injected, that's just a personal opinion. I know there are guys that have carbureted bikes with no problems. It just varies from different manufactures on when they switched to fuel injection. I would also look into maintenance. I don't know how well you work with your hands but look into the cost of maintenance of a motorcycle. Having to take it to the dealer every time it needs something gets pricey. (ex. oil changes, tires, clean/lube/adjusting the chain). Also look into different sizes. Although 250's and 500's may not look as cool as a 600 or 750 doesn't mean you have to get a 600 or bigger. One thing to realize that a lot of riders don't is your safety should be a higher priority then looking cool. Any question's just ask cause you can gain a lot of knowledge from this site and guys on here have tons of knowledge and experience.
