Hey I have an ef hatch wit a b series swap! The car has not over heated yet but wen I turn off the car after a 20 min use! The radiator cap starts dripping water but the temperature gauge shows its still warm! I kno the fan was supposed to turn already! I kno sooner or later it will over heat but I'm wondering why my cooling fan does not turn on! Anyone have any suggestions or ideas how to check if the fan works or not!
hook the fan to a 9v batter to check if it works. the acctivation switch is on the back of the block i beleive. when i got my car my fan was wired directly to a 12v source so it stays on whenever the car is on, if you worried about over heating you could do that till you figure out the problem.
Get an new radiator cap they are cheap at parts stores it will help too. To check the fan try to jump the relay. Pull the relay out, and use some wire to jump where the relay was. You have to look at the relay to see where to jump it at. Also you can check the relay itself by putting power to the switch side of the relay check for a click, and also use a voltmeter and see if you have any volts from the other 2 sides.
If its the temperature sensor for the fan thats broken, just jump it so that the fan only comes on when the ignition is on and turns off when the ignition is off.
and whats with peoples willingness to rig the radiator fan so quickly, damn.
you should not hook up the fan to a switch, that's janky. the fan is not designed to run 100% of the time and you will burn out the electric motor if you do this.
OP: has the fan ever worked? if not it's possible the fan switch is not hooked up on the backside of the block. if you have a newer b-series engine then the coolant fan switch is going to be located on the thermostat housing. if thats the case then simply extend the 2 wires located at the back of the block over to the thermo housing.

Poping your hood after a drive wont tell you if you fan was on or not. Mine is only on for 30-40 second spurts; So before you make the assumption that your fan isn't turning on let you car idle for like 30-40 minutes an watch for it, make sure to keep an eye on the temp gauge too. I had though mine wasn't working too, but i just wasnt being patient enough, so give it more time.
And when you said the gauge read "still warm" what exactly do you mean? was the needle in the middle or slightly above or below it?
