Icon2 Automatic Civic hybrid can't shift into park

I've a 2007 civic hybrid automatic. I can't shift it out of park and into gear. I've learned the trick of inserting my key into the covered hole behind the gear shift. I'm suppose to drive it several hundred miles this weekend and worry that doing so will either be unsafe or will significantly damage the car. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks.

are you parked on a steep hill or something? sometimes it's hard to shift out of Park so you kinda have to rock the car, or push it forward a bit.

No steep hill. Just a level driveway.

-Are you stepping on the brakes??
-Are your brake lights working?
-Is the horn working??
-Check fuse #12, under the hood.
