GC/Koni combo vs. Coilover set up Performance
Hi. Im looking for oppinions or experience in the suspension area. Wondering how the GC/KONI set ups are handling out there on the road and on the track under hard running. vs. say entry level coils like the [B]FFs Type1. Or say the GC/KONI set up versus a coilovers set up around the same price of 900 like TIEN basic or BLOX, FFs 2. Im looking for the best performance for my dollar..and of course a low stance.. thanks!
GC Koni won't go super super low like some full coilovers. As far as handling goes, I've found this setup will out handle pretty much all entry and mid level coilover systems out there.
what the koni/gc lack is the ability to go down without touching preload. if you want to ride slammed just buy skunk pro c's and be done with it. if you want to make your car handle, get the konis and do research on what rate you want with the GC's. it's no surprise that almost every car at our local track that's serious about track time is on the koni/gc combo
the GC/Koni combo runs about 900 right... what are some prices out there..i would like the GC top mount hats also...so like 1100 almost..Just a liitle over what i want to spend right now..unless theyre the sheeet!
top hats are nice in the front but not really needed unless you plan on going lower than you should on the street
so GC/koni combo handles 10 times better than the FF type1?? I also read that you cannot adjust camber or damping on the FF type1 and on the type2 you can..Whats that and can the gc/koni do it??

i went to thmotorsports and it comes out to 878 shipped i beleive. and its $131 per shock right?? It doesnt allow you to choose front or back so how do they know when you ask for 4? 2 front 2 back. did the prices go up?
there's no way you could have called and talked to anyone and gotten this quote. you didn't do something like price shop on their website did you? always deal direct with anyone you buy from. most websites are just electronic ads. TH will do konis for $455 shipped and GC's to match them for $340 shipped
no i didnt call...lol..i just figuered what the internet price is, thats what it is..I guess i should call them huh. jhpusa.com has the GCs for like 200 something..but then again it doesnt specify for the konis or what. ThM does have the lowest price forthe konis though. Dang it would love not to pay more than like 600-700 bucks
jhpusa is a shady business, they love selling stuff they don't have in stock. also, the koni specific ground controls are +40 bucks from any dealer. GC charges everyone including dealers this extra $40. if you heckle with Th you can probably get them to $785 shipped for the setup
ya jhpusa does do that..sell/advertise things they dont have in stock...i had an experience like that. Im going to call them later and ask them if they have the GC in stock and if they are for the koni priced at 2 something..that would be a deal
one piece of advice... CHECK out what you want for spring rates.. ride in a car if possible to get an idea..
I have koni/gc, daily driven (350f, 380r) which I got as a recommend when I told my other planned mods... Personally, I find the 380r is AWFUL for a daily... We have bumpy, uneven roads where I live, and flying when you hit a bump gets old...
so... great setup.. love the adjustability... but check your spring rates

i called thmotorsports and the guy told me 799 without top hats, and 899 with top hats. for 800+ bucks id rather buy like some Buddy club coils or something
buddy club as well as other brands like d2 are all made in the same factory in taiwan and given different labels. there is nothing your getting/paying for better other than a name. how many real racers use buddy clubs or d2's? harldy any if any at all. GC/Konis are far better. Skip the top hats like you were told, you dont need them
Ok man I own both Koni/Skunk2 and Cuddy Blub n spec+. An I will tell you this I am selling my Cuddy Blubs because the ride is pretty much CRAP, it's the shock valving not the spring because I have switched the rates and did nothing. The adjustments go "from stiff to retarded" as one of my friends put it. I am now in the process of Picking up AMR's for my EK and switching the Koni's to my EG.
The only reason why I would go with the Koni/GC over the Pic's is because of the life time warranty and adjustability.
I have no idea what you are talking about the second I drove off the 2x4's with my EK I landed on my front lip when my shocks were on the lowest perch.

i think some of the dump crowd is talking about the ability to go down and preserve shock travel that some coilovers like pic and skunk2 pro c's have. with koni if you drop the car on the oilpan you have no shock travel. since some people seem to enjoy rock collecting with the bottom of their cars it would be a nice feature for them.
It depends on the car. If you have a EM-1 like I do then you have a double wishbone setup which you can not adjust camber with via the shock. You must get a seperate camber kit. If you have a macpherson style suspension which is common on the newer hondas then yes you can adjust camber with the coilover/shock depending if the top hat is made to do so. Well ofcourse the GC/Koni will outhandle the Type 1's, the type 1's have no damping adjustability. Slammed car with the Koni yellows isn't for everyone, you are really left with very little travel with that setup. The koni's are great for performance, for lowering springs, for moderate lowering with sleeve type coilovers, and daily driver/weekend warrior. Not for slamming, and or too low of a ride.
