Default freelude.com

Many of you (including myself) were dissapointed to see Chris shut down HP.com after so many years of good Prelude tech and discussion. Those of you who were members may have received an email regarding a new Prelude site that is in the works. I had a chance to check it out this morning and I think it could be a nice site if the moderator (whoever it is) keeps it nice, not rice. Here's the link: www.freelude.com

Just thought I'd share.

Site looks really nice. And yes I agree about the "rice" comment you made. I have gotten my self in trouble before on this site by making the comment that the majority of people posting pics of the preludes on HP.com was "rice". Basically my comment was thrown way out of context, but yeah it would be nice to see that site start up in a non-rice environment.
Thanks for the heads up.

Hey, I got the freelude email too... I'm pretty sure they got my email from HP.com. Anyways, I just registered here. My logon id over at HP was zoomzoom. That's already taken here, so just call me 2001se here.

I hear your point, and it's understandable, but the point here is that we were SPAMMED. AS you may know, spam is illegal. I can go on all day about why spam is bad, how it hurts server performance, how it invades privacy, and what can legally be done about it. I think the owner was wise to shut it down, as each infringement can cost from $500 to $50,000. This is nothing to mess with, and someone who's spent 4 years recruiting new users (the hard way) should not have to sit back and watch all of his or her hard work be taken without any consent whatsoever. It's illegal, and even if 99% of the recipents are in favor of the email, it still is not appealing to somebody and they do not deserve unsolicited email.

Even though I posted above regarding this, I did not notify the owner of the site, or anyone else for that matter. I think we all know why this happened, and it's 100% justifiable.

I hate spam with a passion, and this has nothing to do with a newly-formed prelude site, as it may appear. It turns out that the webmaster made a poorly thought out decision, costing him his site, but not without learning a valuable lesson. He will be able to relaunch it, but most-likely under a different domain and obviously without unsolicited email recruiting new users.

Yes, you can. I think I remember seeing that up to 30% of all AOL email is spam, and the dollar amount associated to it was insane.

There are many programs, mail clients, and online services that will filter spam. Yahoo has one in place, and it works very well.

For more info on what spam is, check this site: http://spam.abuse.net/

whoever complained and got the site shut down thats pretty f'in sad. all the guy did wrong was send the email through his own provider. he could have done it many other ways and you wouldn't have anyone to complain to. i hope he's vindictive and signs everyone up to **** sites

Was it SPAM or was it an honest attempt to inform HP users of a replacement for a lost site. I would think that the list from Chris's site was used by a member if it was a bulk mailing. Sure makes you think about sending messages to a number of friends.

I personally think you are full of ****. Why bother with someone else's site because it potentially may take the place of your beloved hp.com. So freakin what. I wish I had got the email, if it wasn't for this site, I may never have know about it, which is no use now because the cry babies shut it down. Why don't you work this hard at shutting down the BS **** spamming instead of infringing upon a sport many of us love and want to get all we can about it. I personally don't mind recieving emails about stuff going on in the prelude community, I'm sure I'm not alone. If you are so damn worried about getting advertising email, don't make your email address public, plain and simple.

I sure hope you did not direct those comments towards me. All I was doing was pointing out the legality of what happened, and why it was shut down. Again I had nothing whatsoever to do with the closure. I did not notify anyone regarding it, and if I did, you better believe i'd be man enough to stand up to it. Maybe you should re-think your statements before you fire off BS.

What really kills me, is all you whiners are acting like the site was shutdown because of the post on this site. If you think the handful of people who viewed it on this site had a direct relation to it going down, you are very naive my friends. Do you think we are the only people who recieved this email? Give me a break! I'd go as far as saying that the closure did_not have anything to do with the post on this site.

"cry babies" shut it down? I don't think so. All it takes is one person to challenge the legality of it, and that's it. What, do you think people from this site emailed the webmaster with hate letter? I DOUBT IT! Even I love getting email regarding the prelude community, after all I have been into preludes probally longer than most of you have been driving! Give me a ******* break man, and stop all of your whining. I just stated the facts as they appear, sometimes the truth really hurts.

If you have anymore to say regarding this, anyone, please step up, and state it in a mature fashion. I am not defending the closure of the site, I love prelude oriented sites, but I am defending my above statements. Don't come at me like i'm the cause of the site closure.
