just a question about my caliper piston (pic inside)
I was changing the rear brake pads on my 92 hatch, I remove the caliper and notice that the caliper piston have rust on it. the rubber that keep the piston clean and lubricated had ripped and came off. i tried pushing the piston with my hand and it didnt move. so based on the pics my question is, can I be able to rebuilt the calipers or buy the whole thing. thank you for your help.
You have to turn the piston while applying pressure to get it to go down.
There is a special tool to make the process alot easier.
But if I were you, I would go ahead and buy a new caliper if the dust seal ripped. Or rebuild it if you are confident enough.

ya like gunmetal said, that style piston turns in, not pushes like the front. but i would replace it anyway or rebuild it, or u risk having problems later on down the road
thank you for the help, I turned the pistons and it worked. I had to take it out and clean the rust from it though. maybe ill replace the calipers
next time I change the pads
