ek d16 engine question
sup guys, my brother has a d16y8 in his 96 civic ex, he needs a new motor because his bottom end is gone, so were just gonna get another motor cheaper than rebuilding it. we found one on a 99 ex, but the parts yard tried telling us it was different because of a manifold vac line or something, i'm not too familiar with d series engines, if there really is an issue can't i just use the old manifold, or is there another difference? also my cars have always been obd1, i notice there is an obd2a and obd2b, is the 99 an obd2b?
Check the part numbers on the head castings. I think the later engines had a coolant line or something or another on the intake manifold. You shouldn't have an issue.
The Y8s are known to have lubrication issues. Have you considered converting to OBD1 and dropping a D16Z6 or D16A6 in instead? They may be available cheaper, they're more durable and they're more tuner friendly. If you don't do emission testing in your state, it's worth looking into.
